  1. That is alot of work with a hand tiller. Can understand why you were shaky. That is where a nice compact tractor with a rear tine tiller comes in handy. Those spots look like that wouldn't be possible to get to with such a rig. It will be well worth it, when the green is showing with the deer right along with it. The progress will be interesting to follow. Hope mother nature is on your side.
  2. I usually plant about 3 acres. Just starting to be able to walk across the ground. Like to get them in during May, but not this year, to wet. Last year, I got them in early and all came up very nice. In a few days, all that were showing were stems. Think every deer for miles around came in and cleaned them off. They did grow new leaves, but never made alot of beans. I worked up part, and put it into wheat in September. You should see the heads on that wheat, from the nitrogen fixed into the soil from the beans. Maybe 3 inches long, There is ample clover and alfalfa in my fields, but they know when the beans are up .I'll be putting in acres of alfalfa some time before August 15th, but don't know about beans this year.
  3. Thanks for showing those pictures. Now I got that itchy feeling. Only 131 days from tomorrow. Getting late, got to get those tree stands up. Oh no, bow needs tuning up, and the bow shop packed. lol
  4. New York Hunting & Trapping 2010-2011 official guide to laws & regulations, page 18 under hunting definitions- Motor Vehicle- means every vehicle or device operated by any power other than muscle power including, but not limited to automobiles, trucks, motorcycles ,tractors, trailers, motorboats, snowmobiles, and all-terrain vehicles whether operated on or off pubic highways. The law is pretty clear to me. no hunting off trailers. What about bicycles, and wheelbarrows? Muscle power.
  5. Been seeing live fawns while turkey hunter, checking my field crops, and on the tractor. Have not found any parts or pieces like above. Usually, seeing sets of twins is very common by now. This year, I have yet to see any twins, all singles. Few fawns are nice size already, but have also seen some later drops. What is everyone else seeing? Any differences from other years?
  6. I bought Herters Fowl-Tech rain wear back for the 2008 turkey season. Just completed 2011 turkey season,( wetest on record) and the jacket and pants are in great shape yet. I use it almost every day during bow season for deer, even though it's not raining. Bought a larger size to go over other clothing. It's really a great product for the money. It stays waterproof. I paid 40 bucks for the jacket and 35 for the pants back then. Just looked them up in Cabela's and they run 75 for the jacket, 70 for the pants. Boy, have things gone up. Should have bought 2 sets for a later date. The only complaint I have is never getting enough pockets for all my stuff. My son says to get a backpack. Dad likes pockets with good zippers. Call me old fashion.
  7. Seemed like every time I went out, the ditch in front of me had 3 feet of water in it. Sitting in the blind looking at my 14 inch tall boots, wet feet were going to be the outcome, if a gobbler came in. Would be well worth it . Never remember such a wet May. Over 7 inches in the rain guage
  8. What a nice bird to start out with. Congrats on the success. Late birds are just as good eating as early ones.
  9. That turkey would make anyone sit up and notice. He's one big Tommy.
  10. I totally agree with you. Finding what the turkeys want to hear is the key to success. This year however, they seem to be coming in more silent then usual. Maybe because it's getting late in the year. Had one jake present himself this past Saturday, but passed on him. Come in without a peep. He'll be a nice gobbler come next year. Sunday was deer day. Monday was two nice hens very early. No gobbler with them. Seemed very lonely just wanting to make a friend with the decoys. One more day left, maybe the best for last? Good luck to all that all still out in the woods.
  11. May is going by, so fast. It has been the best year for me, thus far. Have had more action in the last few days, than I've had all season. The birds come into the call but, just can't get them in those last few yards needed for a good shot. The excitement grows however, with each encounter. Don't know if I'll ever harvest a bird, someday maybe. Just being out with the wildlife is a great rush and can't wait for this weekend.
  12. Here to from western N.Y. Been alot of gobbling the first two weekends till about 6:30 a.m. No sightings. The neighbor has peacocks and every time they would yell, the turkeys would gobble. Past Saturday and Sunday, very quiet. I figure that is because of the rain, they are down very early off the roost. Saw a big gobbler at 100 yards but, wouldn't commit to the hen decoys or the calls. I figure he's been shot at and is wise. Maybe should of had a Gobbler decoy? Saw a hen at 7:08 come in at 30 yds. She too was moving on. Sunday started with clucking in front of me at 6:38. Nice hen at 10 yds. Stayed there looking at the decoys for a few minutes. Had a jake with hens for decoys to the left rear of me and a tom with a feeding hen to the right. Between me and her was a 8 foot wide ditch with waist deep water. Seeing hens so early in the morning makes me wonder if the nests are getting flooded out. Hope not. I think the hunters have educated the turkeys so, it will be tough from here on out. Good luck to everyone.
  13. Maybe these goverment officials have to much time on their hands, so they have to create work for themselves. Then again, with the population decline in New York, maybe we have to many goverment officials. By the way, I have never been a smoker.
  14. This is something that I think should be mentioned in the hunting coarses. When I took my bow coarse 10 years ago, I asked that question and, they seemed to avoid it like the plaque. Maybe because the room was full of younger kids. I don't know why he wouldn't answer the question. The instructors know that mistakes happen. They hit ethics hard, but what about that fine line of right and wrong. What is right in a situration like this?
  15. Congrats on the harvest. Some nice pics. They say rattlesnake tastes good too, but I don't think I'll be trying it any time soon. lol
  16. Thanks for posting the pics. That gobbler would be a nice framed picture on the wall, and also as a mount. I've been trying to get nice turkey pictures for a while, but have only ended up with deer. Guess I shouldn't complain.
  17. I would think Amherst would have alot of sheds seeing that they have so many deer. North Tonawanda is the same way, I understand. Alot of houses with acres of rural growth for ideal habitat with no hunting. They eat so many peoples bushes and trees. Are alot of sheds found by homeowners in their back yards?
  18. Very nice pictures and thanks for sharing them. The second to the last night of deer season, I had turkeys flying up in the trees above me. They were coming in to eat wheat. Think they were teasing. Can't wait till May 1st?
  19. Great numbers on those archery giants. I thought the cutoff date for the New York Big Buck Club is April 1st.,
  20. This is something that is really needed. Hope it is not tabled like other bills in the past. Would this have enough votes to make it to Governor ? Any ideas to his position on this matter?
  21. What a big show. By the size of their vendor list, can you view everything in one day? I know my sons and I went to Cabela's in Lancaster P.A. a few years ago, and that took hours to look at.
  22. Just think how much bigger that buck will be this year.
  23. I don't know how many of you have been with your kids when they harvest a deer. The look in their face, well to those that have, know that look. The ones that haven't experienced it, I don't want to spoil the future for you. You'll never forget it. Then when you see them hold 190" of rack, that just adds all the more! I just can't put it in words.
  24. I like the Moultrie IR cameras. The time between multiple pictures takened is alittle slow 10-12 seconds, but can't beat the camera for the money, $149.00.
