Whos Frost seeding?
landtracdeerhunter replied to LET EM GROW's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I am mud seeding, LOL. -
I see where NYS. Maple Weekend has been cancelled as a result of the many Caronaviruses spreading throughout the state. Always a great time to visit some of your area Sugar Houses. Sure will miss the maple donuts; one of my favorites. Bang up year here with 9 gallons of syrup off 396 gallon of sap. Expect the last run into next Wednesday.

Hunting for food out of season
landtracdeerhunter replied to Five Seasons's topic in General Chit Chat
For those of us lucky enough to have the space, and with warmer weather coming to support; a garden would be a great idea to plant this year. With little money, one can support life for quite a while off one. We always live off one right into winter very easily. Get your seeds and fertilizer now. I would exchaust all other sources first before shooting wildlife out of season. Red squirrel and woodchuck would be great, no season game options to think about. And who said, let them eat crow? -
I remember these like it was yesterday, LOL.

Corona Virus Thread
landtracdeerhunter replied to Al Bundy's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
If I didn't arlready have in house, Lysol, and Clorox, I would make haist to get some on hand. Both are knowned to kill Coronavirus Covid - 19 and Sars. Anti bacterial will not; need Virucidals or anti viral products. Those two products just might make a good stock option to buy right now, in a declining stock market. -
My trees all shut down Monday the 24th around 5 pm. with low pressure moving in. Looks like the next run here might start on Leap year day. I don't tap trees in January anymore because of low sugar content. My boil rate was 62 and 57 to 1 , two different years. Light syrup though.

Maple Season 2020 is upon us. This years going to be a tough call because of the milder Winter. Hope for sap to run into April, or it's going to be a quick season.

Best Valentines Day in a long time !
landtracdeerhunter replied to Nomad's topic in General Chit Chat
I make my wife something special for Valentine's Day every year. Something from the heart. Something she can remember me by when I leave this earth. We use to do the dinner thing, buy candy, ballons, etc, ect. ect.. We even went on a pretty carrige ride up in Buffalo once. You see, after you have been with someone for so long, and get up in age, you start to believe that life is far more than than every day moumental things. Live the special moments, special holidays, special times like these. Learning to appriciate what you have. I Love My Wife ! -
I seen some of these in plastic form years ago; wondered then if they are effective call then. Well, I ran across some of these tubes recently by someone who makes them. First thing come to mind, sure are one of the best eye catching calls I ever have seen. Be a cool collection. We all know though, that a call is only as good as the operator behind it. Then sometimes the turkeys have other ideas. These calls measure 3 inches long and an inch and an eight in diameter. Has anyone used- had luck with this style call? Can they be effectice? How would you rate them against a box call?

Needed to provide DOB to purchase liquid wrench
landtracdeerhunter replied to mowin's topic in General Chit Chat
Use Castle Liquid Torch; does a better job and never get asked. -
The lawbreakers know who they are.

Prove he is feeding deer by this picture. So many so quick to jump on the band wagon.

As you know, all you need is a few trees; a few bucks; and a dream. Start back up on a small scale. I stopped back in 79, only to start back up in 12. I wouldn't think of another thing I could be doing, but sugaring.

Treat it like you would beef.

Eagerly awaiting the start of the 2020 Maple Season. The maple bug grows each year from within. The sweet smell of maple steam is nearing. Getting ready for another great ride, LOL.

The white nostrils give the look of a heavy breathing deer. I have seen this effect on living deer close up with theirs tongues hanging out of their months with druel, after miles of doe chasing. I would leave it as be.
-
I have to ask why the nostrils are so white. Was that the way you you found him
-
That turned out awesome!

But, their's to of ya, so your paying half price, LOL.

Did you get your mount back? Pic.? What time frame?

Winter wheat or Winter rye
landtracdeerhunter replied to buffalojim's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Wheat by far, is my only choice. Feeds the herd in the fall to early winter; then feeds them again in early Spring. Then continues to feed all types of wildlife when grain fills and dries down. Turkeys come in and can reach the shorter growing straw better. Common cover crop wheat is cheaper in price and does better on my soils than rye. Hands down my choice for deer, turkey, and other wildlife choices. I frost seed in late Winter with a good Mammoth red clover and create a perfect deer magnet. -
What Was Your Biggest Disappointment This Season?
landtracdeerhunter replied to squirrelwhisperer's topic in Bow Hunting
No disappointments here. Always think of it as a new adventure. Great to be out ; what ever Monther Nature throws my way, makes me feel really good. Be proud of your accomplishments no matter how small they may be ! -
On a really cool note to start the thread; I used a shed , that was picked up in 2013 to age a buck harvested this year. Age 7+ years old. Thanks Wooly!
