  1. Hope not...I'm sitting in a tree now...lol
  2. Close friend, just down the rd owns 70 acres with an iroquois gas line right of way down the middle of it.. gas company owns a" right of way" . The right to maintain, keep clear,etc... Friend still retains all of his rights as owner . Except for the obvious exceptions of being able to build or dig there.
  3. My 2002 2500hd had the same problem. I did the work myself , but I don't think I spent more than $400.00 and replaced every brake line and caliper on the truck .(no messing with rusted, rounded off brake line fittings and bleeders). Once one line rusts through, the others aren't far behind. Sounds like a spoiled southern mechanic.
  4. After reading some of your stories, I do not feel so bad...I cannot be the only person to put the milk in the cupboard and cereal in the fridge..... Right?
  5. Looking through the guide I received when buying a licence, I see something odd.. In the guide it specifically says that antlerless only can be shot during early bow in wmu. 6a. Also says antlered only during early ml.. Anything I find online says antlered only during early ml season but no changes to bow season... I am assuming the book is wrong, because it doesn't make any sense to force us to shoot does and then 2 weeks later say you cannot shoot one... On another note , it also says 1/2 the antlerless deer were shot with the mzl in 6a so limiting the doe take will help our herd..( We have had 0 DMPs issued, including landowner ones in the past few years) I know bow hunters didn't take anywhere near as many deer so that leaves a lot of destroy/damage. ( whatever they are called) permits still being issued..
  6. Try one, you will like it.... At least for bow hunting....I bought mine from muddy ,I think, all set- up..
  7. Yes, me too... The only advantage of prusik ,imo, is the ease of adjusting your distance from the tree. It is easy to have set so it is perfect for those forward or left sided shots(assuming a right handed shooter) Yet it easy to pull out a little if you need to turn and shoot off the other side. I am sure you know what I mean when your elbow or neck get caught up in the dam tether when it is too short..lol
  8. Not sure if I can explain it ..easy to show...... Start with roughly an 8' rope with a loop on the end Put rope around tree, slide end through loop Now rope is attached to tree Pusik knot is on tag end of rope hanging down. Attach harness to this Just slide rope up the tree as you go.. Now that I sort of explained it do you want to give yourself a dope slap?... Lol...jk
  9. Use mine all the time... 1st time up any tree..
  10. 1st deer ,borrowed 32 special lever action win. 2nd deer , borrowed 280 rem. 7400 Finally bought one after that.
  11. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/q-safe-safety-strap?a=1120057 This one? Buddy uses one and like it.. I personally like the one showed above with the prusik knot. Easy enough to slide up the tree as you go and I love the flexibility it gives you(easy to give yourself a little more slack with minimal movement) if you need extra room in those bow shots on the wrong side of the tree .
  12. Oh no! if it was me I would sit all day.... Imo .5 days in a row... probably not. . As long as your wind is good ,I think often more harm is done coming and going from the stand, leaving scent on the ground and bumping deer... Even though, I have areas that I absolutely will not touch until the rut..
  13. I agree with the others. leave it. Time in the woods will tell you if it should be 20 yds over or in another spot entirely. Do not over use it , and only when the wind is right..
  14. I happened to be walking up and over a fallen stone wall when the upper mount from my rifle sling let loose. I had my hand on the sling next to my shoulder so it wouldn't slide . My 308 pivoted around nicely and landed on my leopold.. oops.
  15. Must be I skipped right past it .
  16. Yeap.. Pretty sure you nailed it.. We are seeing osprey #s and their huge nests rebound in the local area.
  17. I cannot find in this years rules where we can use last years tags from 9/27-30 . This may be a thing of the past now?
  18. I guess , I hang with the wrong crowd. Most bow hunters I know are happy to get a deer..period.. Most don't have good enough hunting to pass a shot on a doe in hopes of a decent buck walking by..
  19. What comes to mind when I see the DECs rule changes are...Welcome to 6a in the nz. We have had muzzle loaders in our bow season for what seems like forever now. Poor deer population and you might as well hang up your bow after 2 weeks after the mzls hits the woods.
  20. There is that too..lol.. I try to hold out for something worth mounting also, now that I have a lot more experience.
  21. I guess it probably started when I shot my 1st buck in the neck at 10-15 feet away. It was the only target available, and I liked the results.. I did a lot of shooting and most of the deer I shot were really close . It was how I hunted. Even then I never shot one in the neck further than 50 yds away.. We used to practice shooting at 16 ounce soda bottles full of water 180 yds away.( maximum distance acrost our field) and I had no problem hitting them free hand. Heck, now I might miss one shooting from a bench.. lol..I no longer put the time in to be that confident anymore, and have switched to the heart lungs for the added safety of a poorly placed shot.
  22. Old gun was a .308 I reloaded New weapon is 300 win mag Gf uses a 22-250
  23. Most ,if not all, were between 5-50 yds. I shot constantly, and felt a miss was highly unlikely.. Why bother tracking . I I think I've stated in other threads that I don't have the confidence to take this shot often any more..in the past I burned through 100s of rounds(through my deer rifle) during practice. Nowadays a box of bullets a year is my average..
  24. I have taken neck shots and killed at least a dozen deer . Never missed, deer never moved another step. Perfect results. I would not recommend it to begginers or so so shots, but for some it is an excellent choice , with the right set-up..
