  1. I hope they get their own season, and wouldn't bitch too much if they are included in all of archery.. I feel that it will do to archery what scopes and inline muzzleloaders did to ml season up here..nobody hunts with a traditional ml any more. And there is a hunter around every corner... Another tradition we can tell our grandkids about .. old fashioned cammed bows that you actually had to practice with and aim not push the button and wait for the heat seaking lazer guided projectile to hit..(I kid......mostly). Haha
  2. Yes , designed by K Strother. I had a chance to try out an evolution and it was a sweet shooting bow. Did you buy from a dealer in NY or online?
  3. Historically, I believe ALL of our firearms were built for war (they just happen to work well for hunting). From the Chinese firelance to the modern AR.

Most area that I rifle or muzzle loader(southern tier) hunt I can see 100-150 yds. with a few spots that I can see further than I would shoot 300+ yds.. I would guess that my average shot is around 40 yds .
  5. It is a strange relationship we have with deer. I found a buck tangled in a fence. After a brief struggle a friend and I freed him . It was in October and if that same deer had walked past me while hunting , it is likely that I would have shot him, not saved him.
  6. Started out as a paper boy, farm hand in the summers , dishwasher, rink rat at the local college, equipment operator/laborer, plumber, firewood business, installed satellite dishes, satellite dish sales( everything north of the thruway), delivered film for Fuji/walmart, small construction business, logger /feller, crew leader setting modular homes, and now I am back to building and remodeling homes on my own again..lol Well that was kind of fun. I've never actually listed everything I have done chronologically in the last 30 years..I do not think I forgot anything. Kinda shows my A.D.D. ..lol
  7. This is my problem with the obr rule as well. I spend most of my time hunting around my home in the northern zone with a 2 week vacation to sz. With no dmps and the ending of the early archery season , opportunities to shoot a deer are getting scarce. I am usually picky with my choice of bucks to shoot anyway .I wouldn't care if the 2nd buck had to have a 15" spread and 5points /side (it would still give me the allusion that I could shoot the next older buck that walks under my stand..lol)
  8. A good point.. We play around cutting firewood and cedar posts(2-6 a day ,lol) all winter. The deer seem to appreciate the trails and ,esp. this winter, don't bother running much. Couple hops and they pretend you don't see them ,ha.. They know the difference between a gun and a chainsaw...lol
  9. We have been dropping 1-2 cedar trees a day for more than a month now..trees are clean as a whistle the next day..
  10. I am ambidextrous , but prefer lefty.. I am not in the collectors market ...I do like what I have seen and read from him though..
  11. I think my thermometer is broken the little - symbol seems to be stuck there...
  12. Grouse.. Dam thing are always in groups of 2-3 too..you take one step and flddddddd! Away it flies .Dam! Didn't even get the gun up.2 steps later flddddddd. Away goes another DAM!! shoulda known there was another.. then you step quietly, on edge ,waiting for the next one...Only 2 in that group...lol... End of the day I have 1-2 birds but shoulda had 6.. lol.. that is how my grouse hunting usually goes.. Best success rates.. When we were kids..ride around the 3 mile block on our bikes just before dark and plink them out of the trees... Probably illegal, but made for an easy meal..
  13. Correction officers... Starting pay around 40k..Understand that our economy is probably decade/s behind the rest of NY .
  14. Makes me thankful for the 10 gallons a minute that overflows out of my artesian well..lol
  15. Some excellent points...there was a time in the past when , when I would argue aagainst or bitch about the high wages of COs for example. No education requirements , yet high wages.. this is totally unproductive. We should be pushing to raise ourselves up not drag others down.. Something we have lost in most of our businesses is good leadership.. instead of working ones way up to management level while learning what it took to do the job.Management positions are given to our "more educated" inexperienced individuals. Whith no clue how to do the tasks they are managing.
  16. Good, probably will not stand for long though..this pipeline, imho, is one of the worst ideas we could support...Does not make sense ,to make it easier to export more of our continents limited resources...
  17. Crazy weather. It was 10℉ here today with a wind chill below 0 and freezing drizzle/ rain all day. What's up with that?
  18. Funny , I am enjoying these pictures as I wait for my daughter to get ready . We are headed for the ski hill . Not that cold, just a little below zero with the windchill..lol
  19. Great pics! Here are a few more.. 1st one is on the lake at our camp in Quebec 2nd one is opening of bass season 3rd is daughter ,my brother, and I trying to catch crappie. Yeap, cannot wait until then!!
  20. Well put. Really made me laugh out loud..
  21. There is definitely a fair amount of maintenance/cleaning to keep up with on a pellet stove. Not a lot of time, but something that needs to be done regularly. It seems like the brand of stove makes a big difference in this part also, with the better ones requiring much less.
  22. 1st I would like to say, that I do not agree with what the guy in the article did.. I am more than likely naive, but I think most of us know what is right or wrong irregardless of of any given law/rule. My daughter is taught to respect her elders, peers and treat others as she would like to be treated. She is only 11 so we do not have the opportunity to talk about too many laws. I look at laws as necessary for a modern society. Imho sometimes breaking a law or rule is fine as long as it is the "right" thing to do. For example I have always taught her how to respond in a verbal or physical confrontation. 99% of the time a situation can be deescalated .There may come a time when the proper response is to kick them in the $#$% and punch them in the nose. Having raised a good kid, I am confident she will know when it is ok to break the rules. To me it is really that simple ; )
  23. I heat with a pellet stove . It works great. I bought a small inverter that hooks to a battery to run the stove in case of a power outage. Planning on a stoker boiler in the near future. There is roughly 50% more Btus in anthracite coal vs wood pellets and they are similarly priced in my area. Definitely louder than a wood stove or hand fed pellet stove.lol.. I don't even notice the hum of the blowers anymore though.. We installed a stoker (self feed)coal furnace in my fathers basement after it was evident he couldn't handle firewood any longer... Imo (depending on a reliable supply) coal is the way to go . We spend less money heating his old farmhouse with coal than we did heating with wood.. Coal prices seem to very stable, due to most of the supply is burned commercially not on a residential level. Anthracite coal is not what most people think about when thinking of coal. Bituminous coal is very dirty, dusty, and smokes a lot.
