We always bone everything out.separate by muscle groups,etc.. In reality I have only weighed the total take from a deer a couple times out of curiosity.. Both times it was around 70#s ( I don't really remember exact #) On the other hand, very few of my deer get weighed either.lol.. I have had them weight from a 100 to over 200# dressed.. I would have guessed my average deer weighed 140#. I reread chart and i see i missed the difference between dressed and hanging. Chart does seem a little optomistic..I think my average has probably gone down though , now that I take most of my deer downstate..ha,ha

Phase, since I have over 100 texts so far, does that mean that the camera has stored the same number or does it take some pics in between that don't get sent? Also, when do I have to start worrying about getting pictures cleared from cameras memory?

Nope, there are deer in every picture, except for 2 that have a squirrel.. Lol it is set up on a heavy trail between their main bedding areas.. This isn't the hotspot during hunting season, but when the snow hits the deer are there.

I am starting to think that I may have to walk past my camera after dark..over 100 pictures since Saturday morning but not one after dark..lol

I had a weird indecent with my muzzleloader also.. Walking into the woods , I somehow knocked the fiber-optic bead of my new cheap muzzleloader. I didnt notice until after sitting down against this giant oak.. I decided to stay put until dark anyways ,because my friends were hunting in the same chunk of woods with me and didn't want to mess up their hunts. Oh, and it was really foggy too..lol... This small buck walks right towards me.. I didn't try to shoot initially, but i think he had intentions of eating acorns under my tree. When he was within 10 yds (I remember it as 10 feet, not sure if that's an exaggeration or not) I tried a shot. Boom!! the smoke touched the deer. He did not even stop,look my way, or pick up the pace. He just kept on walking towards the tree and walked right past and out of sight.The only possibility I could come up with was that he was deaf , and or really stupid. lol

I love my cam so far!! I set it up on a good trail on the edge of some really thick bedding/browsing areas . set the cam around 9:30 am yesterday received 1st pic10:30 am..20 pics so far, No bucks yet..

Another vote here for sticking with the 270. Nothing wrong with using a shotgun just to carry something different..but to switch to carrying a shotgun because it is better in any way than a 270 is crazy talk...IMHO...lol

Another choice of weapon to use hunting deer sounds great.. In a quick google trip, it seems that they are limited in their range, due to trajectory and adequate power to penetrate. Within their limited range(probably around archery ranges) why not? Sounds fun, if a person has the funds to buy one..Probably not a lot different than shooting a deer with many standard pistol cartridges. From my observations in the field the actual effectiveness of the weapon has very little to do with the number of wounded animal running around ,slowly dying , or already dead somewhere. I honestly believe that (at least where i hunt down state) there are as many ,if not more deer wounded then are ever tagged and brought home.. Very sad.. There aren't enough bears or coyotes in Letchworth park to eat the dead deer laying around as gifts. But that is a totally different subject..

I haven't seen any chasing, but I saw 2 fresh scraes in the snow yesterday morning.

Just passed on a big(tall), but skinny doe... Wanted to shoot, had the hammer back and all.but couldn't get visions of Bullwinkle following her out of my head.. Freezer is full, just waiting for the big guy. I think..beautiful morning so far.very little wind..

Doe and a buck with rage hypodermics...perfect shot on the doe.. I'm not sure if she made it 30 yds..I had to be careful and not walk where she went to avoid being covered in blood...6 point went maybe 70-100yds...great blood trail..terrible shot..he was quarting to me and moving.(I didn't think he was quarting when I shot?). Arow entered through the guts and broke the back leg..like I said terrible shot, just lucky and hit the femural artery.
