LIVE from the woods 2015 Edition! - Sixth Year Going Strong
ncountry replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
Me too. I just finished a round.. I have seen a disproportionate amount of bucks to does in the last week. 5-1 buck-doe ..I watched a nice buck chase a doe into some honeysuckle this morning. I have been setting here ever since and have yet to see him come out...sneaky buggers. -

Good luck in your retrieval !!. Don't rush it..biggest mistake most hunters make, myself included on a poor shot.. -
I never get any support for this idea...lol.. But, I am all for 2 weeks traditional bow, 2 weeks compound, 2 weeks crossbow, 2 weeks traditional ml, 2 weeks ml, 2 weeks firearm.. Not having a dedicated season for each weapon leads to the ( more or less) the extinction of a tradition.. Very few, except for the diehards will opt for the lesser weapon.

I know personally only a few that do not hang up their bow when ml season starts...This year was different in my home wmu 6a( no does allowed with a ml) ..Typically when ml season starts it is the end of unpressured deer, unless you have your own private little piece. the deer become harder to hunt.

8m.. 4 of us have been hunting hard for 3 days..5 doe and 10-15( one group of 5 may be the same bucks) different bucks sighted so far by 3 of us..every doe has been hounded by at least one buck with 1 poor girl being chased by 5.... So far it has been strangely difficult to find the does.

Sometimes hunting public land is awesome and other times...... Not so much.lol. I had a decent ( never got a clear look) buck pushing a doe all around a patch of honeysuckle in front of me.meanwhile a poor spike would try to go in and he would get pushed out.. I can hear the grunting and crunching , when the grunting stops and the crunching draws closer.. Out steps a 200+# trophy.. Dam!! 200+# bald guy... -
Looking for a better harness connection....

This is what I use, and like it a lot. It gives you lots of room for adjustment, quickly -
Yeah! What he said!! Beautiful deer!

Necessary tool in tuning a bow properly. It is why it is so hard to find a good pro shop. I have been to quite a few that didn't know what a draw board is either, and that should be part of their job. Among other things , Draw length can be properly measured & cams timed and synchronized on a draw board.

There is a good honest answer. There are areas I do not hunt around here anymore during archery. The last time a deer ran over onto this property the owner(so called "good" neighbor) refused us permission to retrieve. But if it happens again the deer will be in my freezer. Just saying. I wouldn't refuse anybody even my worse enemy permission to retrieve an animal.(cannot understand that mindset)

As one park told us.... " You are using the rope as a guide right?. Repelling in the park is illegal" I know most place that we use a rope are not really cliffs , just too steep to safely ascend or descend without something to hang onto.

Have you ever accidentally shot something?
ncountry replied to ATbuckhunter's topic in General Chit Chat
Nope, Absolutely not!! And you cannot prove that was my arrow in your pool.. -
Not a rub. Others posted rub pics. If you see some comparable rubs you more than likely have a/some nice buck/s in the area.. Typical rub in my area is on a 3/4"-1 1/2" tree..

I wouldn't worry much Jeremy K.. I have been hunting the park for 2 weeks every Nov for 6-8 years(lost track) and have wondered the west side bottoms and sides from Mount Morris to the safety zone at Castile entrance.. Lol..most of the walking was done the 1st couple years until I got a feel for the area. I am sure I may have ruined a few hunts, but I know for certain I pushed at least 1 nice buck to a stranger. One of them was a 140 ish 9 point.( he is on NYAntlers site) The park is not loaded with deer but there are some nice bucks running around the woods. People that have been hunting the park for decades say that the deer pop. Us way less than in the past.Compared to hunting up in my area in the nz it is trophy heaven.. I have been lucky and shot a few.

Super! I love my summit , it is one of my favorite climbers.. Buy some of those lone wolf straps to cinch the top and bottom platform together, it make a huge difference in stability once your are set. http://www.lonewolfhuntingproducts.com/shopping/Products/Stabilizing-Straps__SS-spc-%28Connects-spc-Top-spc-Section-spc-to-spc-Platform%29.aspx It looks to like you could have the front of your stand down a little more. To me it seems to bite the tree better if the stand is level or slightly tilted down. Once you get used to it you will be climbing with confidence and bigger steps. I ussually go from my knees up to my chest to my tiptoes and but barely on the seat every step.

I push for 12:00, sometimes all day or early afternoon(late Oct through November). A few years back I saw around a dozen bucks(in a 2 week period) I think only 1 was before 9:30. Since that year, I have been a real believer in sitting till lunch time or later.

Yeap, I wash all my hunting clothes before the season starts with the tide pods without scent and all the other stuff and that's the end of my scent control. Shower with irish spring soap..(ha ha.I think the deer like it.) and hunt down wind. There was a time when I jumped through all the hoops to be scent free, but I personally have not ever seen the advantage yet..Not that there probably isn't a small advantage, just not worth it for me.. I have plenty of deer on the walls.. I have had just as many deer spook then as I do now. Playing the wind seems to be the key. .Just getting into the woods is what it is all about... I am still thinking of trying the wood smoke method though.
