  1. Yes, but dies that mean Larry can do the crime because he can pay the fine?
  2. I am going to have one of these! Looks comfy. I have the same problem ,. I cannot get as comfortable on the ground,no matter the seat or cushion, as I can in my stand....during firearm season I would rather be on the ground most times... Just like right now.. I am sitting in my summit, and it is oh so comfy...Lol..but I can see more if I was sitting at the base of this tree
  3. This . Reminds me about the time when I missed or thought I missed a nice buck . In my excitement, I missed the barrel with 1/2 my powder charge. Thankfully I didnt need it. Because that happened to be all I had with me that day.. lol I stick with the pellets, Even my shaky hands can get them down the barrel when I'm excited..
  4. 1st buck I ever shot with my bow .... I was trying to sneak up on him as he was feeding under an apple tree. I accidentally cracked a branch and he took off , I grabbed my grunt call and he stopped on a dime , turned around and walked right back to the apple tree.. One of the best responses I've seen to a grunt since I have been hunting.. So I know exactly what you mean. I use it a little whenever I am trying to sneak around and accidentally make a noise.
  5. You are spot on.. I happen to live right in the middle of one of these areas...Much of the nz is not much different than the back hills of Virginia...lol
  6. Watched it. Great demonstration of the visibility of bo. Does not affect my opinion on making it a law. Betcha a helmet law INSIDE a car would save more lives.. . lol.....JK....... Everybody has their opinions....
  7. The last time I drove through Montana there was no posted speed limit. Everybody seemed to averaging 55-80 depending on what type of highway it was. Being young, I had to bring the old buick up over a 100 for a while but , I was happier driving a reasonable speed most of the time. I am betting not much would change, with a change in the hunting times. Most of us are hunting what is reasonable anyway. Those who aren't will not regardless of the law. Lets face it , not much enforcement of this .
  8. Had a blast !. Around home, It was the worst year yet for deer sightings. Our group (4) only shot 1 deer during our last 4 day early season, my doe. . It was kind of strange. Deer seemed pressured from the get go, not getting up and moving about until late and then back to bed before the sun was up. After struggling to find anything shootable during regular archery , I caved and broke out the muzzleloader. Always seems like cheating the 1st time out before the deer are pressured. Those few deer that I was seeing too far away did not know they were not safe anymore.Shot another doe. Hunted a bunch with the rifle, without any luck before heading downstate. This was probably the best year I have ever seen as far as rutting activity. Bucks chasing, breeding, and looking for does.. Getting them close enough was the problem. I still lucked out and shot a doe out of my favorite spot. the next day (maybe 2nd?) I shot a 8/9 point that was hounding a doe from the same spot. Since I have returned home I have seen does, couple spikes, and a crotch horn. That is it . It is getting cold out and I am already ready for next archery season to start..lol
  9. I might as well throw this out here in this thread.. I would like to see a 2 buck tag system that we can fill during any season with the 2nd tag having a restriction of 4 point or better(hell i'm fine with both of them being restricted, but I know most aren't)... If they go to a one tag system I might as well not unpack my hunting gear until the 2nd week of Nov for the southern tier trip. Otherwise I might see a shooter and have to cancel .. As a rule I try to wait for an 8 point or better for my 1st buck if successful I wait for a "book" buck during firearm season...... So far that has limited me to one buck a year anyway....lol I would be willing to compromise and wear bo too if that helps..I would even where my pink underwear . to give the coroner a shock if I happen to get unlucky and hit by a ricochet...lol
  10. Where the crest is in that picture fabrique nationale herzal liege is stamped.. Yes, it measure somewhere in between 7 5/8-7 7/8" c to c . Hard to tell with trigger guard in the way.. It is my 1st deer hunting rifle. I had bought it for $200.00 at the local gun shop over 20 years ago. There are no markings on it saying what caliber it is. Owner hands me the gun and a few cartridges and says "I'm pretty sure its a 308" The action and barrel are glass bedded in the stock. She is a shooter. I would reload 48 gr 4064"If I remember right" and a 125 gr sierra spitzer. Theoretically not the most accurate combo, but I could get 1/2"-3/4" 100 yd groups all day.. I haven't shot it in years but am thinking of getting a trigger job done on it or an adjustable replacement? I am starting o miss her..lol Top of the reciever is drilled and tapped.
  11. Yes.. that is it.. http://www.armslist.com/posts/2096696/dothan-alabama-rifles-for-sale--vintage-fn-rifle-30-06 The rifle at bottom of page for sale looks identical to mine . Stock and everything. Right down to the character in the wood.
  12. We have to enjoy our time in the woods.. Otherwise , if we relied on deer killed vs time spent, to judge or success, most of us would have quit a long time ago.. lol...
  13. Back, in the house 68* ..Saw one spike horn. Literally. He had one ~4-5" spike.
  14. A very light breeze here.. but a crisp 12℉....Brrrr...
  15. Hey! I caught and ate a lot of those salmon back in the day. Catching a 25# salmon hooked in the tail is a battle.
  16. I think it is the "grass is greener on the other side " syndrome. The same reason that when fishing from shore, you wish you had a boat. Get out on the water with a boat and drift the shoreline casting to within feet of the bank.. Or go to a large chunk of state land and walk 5 miles to the rd on the other side trying to get away from the people hunting close .. I have never done any of these things , of coarse...lol
  17. I started bow hunting probably 5 years after starting gun hunting. I definitely enjoy it more.. If I had to choose one over the other it would be the bow. I also like the fact that I can shoot a deer and within moment other deer keep on coming through. They aren't scared out of the neighborhood.
  18. "demonstrates that those that wear BO have a bit more common sense than those that don't & are therefore more likely to employ good gun safety habits" The above quote is what made me lol.. Imho.... debating weather bo should be mandatory is ridiculous......To me Tthe arguments for are the same type of arguments for gun control. We need to take some personal responsibility in our own actions and safety. If we as a group feel that we need a law to protect us. we are screwed. We might as well hand everything to the gov. and ask for hand outs when we are in need.... As i believe I said before it is foolish to hunt in some areas without bo, but If I want to do, like I commonly do, and head out back or hunt in the boonies below S Colton without bo that ought to my prerogative..
  19. Thanks, Yes I am fairly certain it is a 98. I will check out the links.
  20. Nice work.. you seem very familiar with these older guns... I have what I believe is a customized military rifle in 308. The only markings left on gun is...Fabrique Nationale Herstal Liege. Is that anything you are familiar with? I was always curious..
  21. LOL.. Really ? That one did make me laugh out loud..
  22. Great job! Congratulations..
  23. No doubt. The problem I find with these statistics, is that the whole column will be used in the defense of wearing bo . For 2/3s of the items, wearing bo would have 0 impact. I would think most reasonable persons would agree that wearing bo makes you more visible I believe the discussion should be : Do we need to have it a law forcing us to wear bo. Statistically when entering the woods the chance of getting shot are not much greater than nil. Why would we support more restrictions upon ourselves? Imho It make many feel better, weather it is justifiable or not. Not a lot different than all the other foolish laws and regulations that are becoming more and more prevalent. I would rather live in a society that took some personal responsibility than one that feels the need to be babysat. Someone mentioned helmet laws. I ride a bike. Its safer to wear a helmet , but on the occasion that I have rode through other states . I have taken the opportunity to let the air blow through my hair, for a few miles, and take the chance of smashing my noggin on the pavement . Yet most of the riders I met wore helmets.
  24. Lol...what I get from this info is bo is magic.. protects me from accidental discharges, ricochets, etc....
