Maybe..lol .. Perfect may have been stretching it.. 125 gr sierra spitzer/48 gr 4064.. my favorite pet load for my old custom Mauser 98
-
Nope. With the angle of the shot it would have been impossible to get both lungs. (picture a deer quartering away with his head turned away looking at another deer) It was a perfectly placed shot.(maybe I hit the back of the 1st lung, but I reasoned that I did not because it ran so far) If I do not say so myself..lol. In both guns I shoot bullets that are light for their caliber resulting in a lot of hydrostatic shock. At 270 yds the bullet expanded minimally and resulted in a complete pass through and a small entrance and exit hole. A perfectly acceptable result for most and an easy tracking job, but not what I personally like. If I shoot a deer in a field I do not expect to see them leave that field.

11/1-11/16 .. Cannot wait! Some serious nap..I mean hunting time..lol ..Invariably during an all day sit I nap for an hour or so...

The 308 was my weapon of choice for the majority of the years i hunted. One day I shot a buck quartering away at 270 yds. Result was a hole in one lung, liver, and a broken front leg. 150 yds later I found him dead. that was at least 100+ yds further than I have ever had to track any of my dear shot with a rifle. Switched to the 300win mag after that. I will even go on the record and agree that 200 yd + shots make up probably less than 10% of my shots, but why not? Most deer I shoot now, that are 100 yds or closer (90%), drop in their tracks. Probably an average of 30 yds less tracking..lol.. Bottom line IF you can shoot it accurately why not?

Glad you are ok.

Great buck. Congrats !

Poor shots suck , but they happen. Good call on waiting until morning. Any deer myself or one of our group has lost can often be traced to the fact that we started tracking too soon after a poorly shot deer. Good luck , hope to pics in the am:

That is great!! that is exactly what I saw this morning. A hawk swooped down and took a red squirrel right of the side of a tree as it was running down ..lol I have never seen that before.

There are reasons why there are few deer in areas with a large Amish community. They shoot to either protect there animals or feed their family. -
Any body know of any good meat cutters in the area?

Lol... I thought you were really going out on a limb here.. I would have never guessed grass carp..

Went back to wallyworld last night and actually had knowledgeable help. She took my old papers including dmps and replaced them with new one with last year's colors.

We need a dislike or jealous button....lol

I have seen mechanicals that would miss a 3x3' target if the opened premature. If one blade opened they could severely swerve..

I will be there starting Nov 4 for 13 days...cannot wait..
-
There was writing on there when I put them in my wallet....not anymore..
-
Oh yeah, I was 2 hours and they printed them off 4 or 5 times and we sorted through them all and picked out the ones that printed in the right spot.

Today i was going through my wallet and pulled my hunting license and tags out. I have tons of pretty camouflage colored papers with ZERO writing left on them.0 nada..(except for the standard print on the back) I cannot identify a single one. Good thing I haven't had to use any of my tags yet. I am assuming I can have a new license and tags printed out ? hopefully not have to claim it was lost and have to pay another $10.00. What would I have done if I shot a deer where I hunt in the ADKs and discovered this? I wouldn't have been a happy camper...lol

I have not seen or heard about any rule changes, so I'm assuming not. I wish they would. One of those bears owes me some meat.
