  1. Sounds like a steal. What town and stateland is it near?
  2. Yeap... 1st and 2nd choice
  3. OMG!!! Lol.....I was in waly world for 1.5 hrs last night. .nobody anywhere. I finally get some help, and the poor kid doesn't have a clue.. Finally we get to the printing off of my tags and it takes 4 separate runs.. we are sorting through 20' of tags picking the ones from each run that are printed in the correct spot.. Finally I have all of my tags .. I tell him that all those extras need to be shredded , I told him this twice and he even offered them to me so I could shred them..I told him no I didn't want to get him in trouble. Like I said no clue, but he was trying..
  4. I kinda figured this would be the case. But, boy there are a few spots that I would really like my rifle..lol
  5. That is what my friend with a 300wsm shoots also. He swears by the 165 gr . I cannot remember what the exact bullet he uses is. According to him they rarely go more than 20-30 yds. With 2 holes and a bloodtrail.
  6. Oh #$%& !! Now I'm gonna have too wear orange with those dang crossbowers in the woods.
  7. Up here , I never do. I am lucky to see 6 people all gun season that are not part of my group(I trust them 110% not to shoot me). In the southern tier I wear orange everywhere. I can see 6 people before the sun rises. And that crazy boom.boom....boom...........boom attitude of some of the shotgun hunters is scarey.
  8. 300 win mag, lung heart area(kill zone), at least a dozen. Close to every one fell in their tracks. 5-250 yds away. 90%+ of the time I can find the bullet jacket lodged close to the hide on the other side. I am sure if I shot a heavier ,better constructed bullet I could shoot from end to end, but what would be the point? Not a shot I would dream of taking. Seems to me like a waste of time to shoot a magnum with an extra 1000 #s of energy , just to blast out the other side with that same extra 1000 #s of energy. I like to leave it all in the deer. I was just kidding about arguing about it..lol Everybody has an opinion. If one wants a pass through so they feel that there will be a better blood trail, so be it. I have just not found the need. I always poke fun at some of my buddies who shoot heavier bullets. They have awesome bloodtrails. I , so far, have never needed one. Again... do ya wanna fight about it? ha ha
  9. Like everyone has said, shot placement is key, esp at the longer ranges. at 200 + yards the bullet is likely to pencil through. I am sure it will expand some much like the picture above. BUT, if you screw up and hit them behind the heart/lungs , your chances of finding that deer are very slim. From what I have seen from friends that shoot the 243, I would carry it in a minute for 200 yds or less.
  10. Nope.... But , 150 grain in my 300 is what I shoot and it has yet to leave the other side of the deer.. Wanna argue about it.. lol
  11. Yeap..imo. A bullet that heavy is going to leave the other side of the deer with enough power to pass through another one..
  12. I do not have too many ground blinds. but I probably have shot more deer with my butt on a 5 gallon pail , sitting in the tall grass or cattails, and peeking out into an opening or field.
  13. Lol. I was just adding a tip about this.
  14. As a builder and living in the middle of Amish country I have worked side by side with a few. IMO they are no different than us "English" folk. There are some true craftsmen among them in rough construction(barns, etc) to cabinetry . There are just as many if not more that I wouldn't have build my dog house. I would think for the most part that you would be safe having them build a camp shell. how much you vet them I guess would depend on how long you expect camp to last. Is it something you hope to use for 20 years with little headache or something you plan on passing on to the kids or having real value down the road? Add info....If you have to pull a permit, the Amish usually are not insured or carry workman's comp. You will have to say you are building it yourself..
  15. .I love bacon. the kid, wife and I are cooking down lard as I type...wife just finished telling me that my cholesterol count is rising by the minute..Salting and eating the crackling as fast as it cools...lol.. We just got our pig back from the butcher.. freezer1/2 full of pork now we just need some more venison to finish filling it up..
  16. Around home I will hunt for as little as a 15 minute walk out back after work, to 2-3 hrs morn and night. We stay at a cabin in Letchworth sp for 2 weeks in Nov.. During this time we are in the woods for all but an hour or 2 in the early afternoon . Some days we never come out.
  17. 1 pin HHA dial. It stays on 25 yds most of the time , good from 5-30yds (+ or - a couple inches) . I practice at 60 yds or so most of the time though, makes the hunting yardages seem easy..
  18. Wake up in am, drink coffee , pack everything that has been hanging outside all night (on porch) into my pack , tuck my pajamas into my boots throw on a fleece and head out the door. Get dressed at base of tree, climb 30', and wait..That is my method most days.. ha.ha. Way too far to be wearing any of my hunting duds until I get to where I am going. I may be leaving out a few personal things, and the drive if I am not hunting out back. I do not pay as much attention to scent control as maybe I should. But I always pay attention to the wind and am usually way up in the air, seems to make a difference. I am thinking of trying smoke (wood ) as a scent killer this year.
  19. I thought better of you Belo........
  20. I have a bunch of 100-130" deer..he looks bigger than that . My guess is 145 gross. I'm used to judging antlers on a 160#+ deer not 120#- one though..
  21. Just put out the three cameras I got from woolly this past weekend . I can hardly wait to pull the cards and see what is on them. Gotta leave them there at least a week..ha
  22. Not my thing, but honestly who cares. People who bait are missing out on the total experience, not us.. I would still take my odds ,with years of "real"experience, over theirs any day. At least with an older buck or doe. Not so sure about a 1 1/2 year old or younger though.
  23. ~ 30 years. Deer hunting for roughly 23.
  24. Great area! We only make it down a few times in the summer, but are there most weekends when the ski area is open..
  25. Have any luck with the decoys yet? I have only managed to scare deer away so far..ha
