i enjoy the scouting and prep more than hunting the older i get. most fun i had was seeing my nephew enjoy his day out of the rain under a roof i just installed and getting a bear because he was able to stay comfortable and dry.. now if turkeyfeathers would just kill his 1st with bow my season would be complete..

seems like a lot of shots are high or just poor. best advice is wait ..im amazed at how many people still push them when everything you see or read is back out wait....

plots arent nessary. but dropping a tree, blocking a trail. hingecutting all are easy . even something as simple as tying a few strands of a fence to make a low spot makes places easier and better with minimal.effort. there is a circut movement may repeat 2 or 4 days or even 10 days apart . the bear my nephew took came thru every 10 days or so north to south but returned south to north every 2 to 4 days.. got pics of it on wed night thursday early am and he got it sat am.. not a hard pattern but its there.. same stand he was in has yeilded sighings every year with shot oppertunity every 2.. i hit a bear 2 years ago on halloween with archery same stand .two years previous i killed bear within 50 yards of same stand .. long term pattern... .

everything has a pattern , some habitat manipulation and you have your own little hot spot

want to read about my 1st bear its in bear hunting section on site..was quite an experiance..my nephews this past sat was much calmer...

i aim where i do on a deer. behind leg middle of chest. and let it move leg forwrd before shot opening chest in case shot drifts forward. although the 1st bear i got was shot in neck and anyplace else i could hit it untill i was out of bullets

best advice i can give killing one and tracking 2 others one recovered other was not is wait..wait longer than you would a deer no matter where you hit it.. they have a lot more blood and can take a while to soak theu the fur to even leave a blood trail. 1 hr min 2 hour min would be better.. the one not recovered was simply looking to soon and jumping it had i waited longer it would of been dead in bed i kicked it out of

i use rage crossbow heads 100gr. at 400fps hit same as field tips but i also turned inserts to match up with vanes

was only 50 yards or so past where i got my bear few years ago..onlt 100 yards or so behind house..crazy 13 bear seen same area ove last 8 years.

yes . his 1st hunt 5 yards 30-30. only went 150 yards or so waited hr to track ,put finisher in it as was still moving but wasnt going anywhere. told his father would of been cheaper to mount his 1st squirrel than geting a bear..

so my nephew just got his licence the other day never really showed an interest in hunting til a few weeks ago. at 1025 this am he took. his 1st game ever! oh and i was able to get a doe as well..

your county coop extension sells all kind of trees and seedlings or you can buy direct from state sale is usually listed by febuary and pick up is april for planting

the 5 20 ga were only an in deep in deer..fired at range by hunter previous week nothin vital. .22 rounds were in neck in green pockets/ lumps i assume a poacher. the broad head was in vertabra mid body. i killed a droptine that had a 5in stick thru its chest cavity encased in a sac.. maybe what caused its drop tine that year. but it didnt seem to cause the deer any stress

most i ever found in one deer i cut up that my brother shot was 5 20 ga slugs 4 .22 bullets , and a broadhead. the slugs were from week before rest were all healed up.

i know a guy that mounts every buck he shoots spike ,5 pt, 10 pt whatever so the pay to get mounted only becomes relevant if everyone is in same fianicial situation.
