  1. I maybe will be in town that day. Not sure how time will work out when I'm there
  2. Got this today... may have to stop if I'm in town
  3. It's the end of the month..any action reopening the goat??
  4. You are responsible.. I can show you many bullet holes in barn from long range rounds that people miss and dont think about what is behind their target. 90% of people have no reason for a long range round when hunting . It simply becomes the motive for over gunning. If your going someplace where long range shots are expected you gear appropriately. An ar platform for deer in nys 30 30 is more than enough for 99% of its terrain
  5. How far do you need to shoot..200 yards is far enough. The gun will out perform the shooter 99% of the time. 30-30 has killed more deer than can be counted..
  6. Corn is best planted when oak leaves are the size of a squirrels ear. Spraying. Is best when 4th leave emerges.. 8 to 20 in tall As for brush hogging putting corn on the ground will bring in deer and Turkey. But it's best done a week or so before you expect to hunt.. making a trail thru corn to your stand is also a good funneling technique
  7. Cleared / enlarged a small plot for brassica and to allow more light to apples. Just about doubled the size of the plot..
  8. Gonna be pretty shaded... clover mix?
  9. I have not seen an updated date for a reopening even soft opening .. worried turkey feathers might starve or die of thirst soon if it doesnt reopen soon...
  10. Friends make a great leek dip. One makes a leek and ham sausage with cheese... so many ways to use them
  11. A brassica plot and winter rye or wheat. clover if plots are hit hard. Brassica may be left alone till late winter. My experience is after they have it 1 year it is wiped out early the next
  12. Can see that in any parking lot of a restaurant that makes wings..
  13. I've seen deer eat fish . Especially in winter any bait left on the ice is scarfed up very quick. Guess they want the proteins.. guess vegan is only because easy protine is available. So after watching this several times in my life I decide that I will continue my existence as an omnivore
  14. I'd move 100 to 150 yards the direction it flew and set up.again and start calling after 30 min or so. Killed. Lot of missed birds over the years. Or you can go back the next day with different calls and set up in a bit different area. Did quite a few double with the man that taught me to hunt turkey by simple moving the direction rest of birds went even after taking 1 bird . 30 min and boom 2nd bird done
  15. I just had one chew a wire on a sensor on my.convertable after I get that replaced I'm sure they got some more I'll find..
  16. Still not a winner..your hoping a bear is around.. turkey or deer always are..I could burn honey for a week and never see a bear. And then boom there is one..then gone for weeks again..
  17. I cant vote on this . Both are easy given time to hunt. Bear are hard in NY np matter how much time you put in..there is no calling, no baiting, your not gonna track one, and not on a reliable pattern
  18. I would be happy with the tin can results. My turkey gun shoots patterns so tight a t 20 yard I had to put a sight on it as It about shoots a slug at 20 yards. I kind of like looking down a rib and a bead. We all evolve as hunters i needed to be able to kill birds at 65 plus yards.. now i like them at 20 with a single shot 12 nef with number 6 pheasant loads( lot cheaper than turkey loads and very effective)
  19. Had a red squirrel build a nest in tractor engine compartment. Took the babies outside a s let them cry..shot 23 red squirrels coming to save them.. made it squirrel free for a bit around the house . Cut down the pines and no more squirrel problems
  20. Signs can be placed as close as you want but not further than 330ft. On high travel sides maybe 50 yards is close enough.. I always followed the rule I want to see 2 signs at all times so on a slope they are closer together.. open timber bit further. apart. Order in full lot size 500 signs for example you may use 440 but every year. By law they must be checked.. I add signs as woods thicken and replace those that disappear. Always nice to have extra.. my neighbor has about 1/2 his property road frontage posted with my signs now as he dosnt want to buy any and I give them to him and let's me hunt and patrol his property..
