Rebuilding fuel pump , took short walk in woods to hear some birds. Lunch at moms.. Than back to work on fuel pump and other equipment need to get ready to work some ground...
-
I use to use a vest..cut way back on what I take and use a small fanny pack. And wear a belt with thick foam.pad attached... Of course if I don't have my bird by 8 am I'm back home and in bed.
-

No its a color I made up..closest to it is a color from a 71 Dodge dart..should of piced existing color. Was very expensive to mix..
-
Well its Vin number reads as a 1955 Willy's (jeep)pick up.. But it has a later windshield and i didt want to change it back to split..maybe some day..

I bought it for the cylinders on the dump bed.. But it ran after sitting for 30 years so didn't want to junk it..was going to be a woods truck..and I got carried away....
-
Anyone into restoring classic vehicles? Never thought I would do it.but didn't have heart to take it to scrap yard after I bought it for dump.bed because it ran....but I just put my truck on the road after five years of satisfying work..Before and after pics..not quite finished ..rebuilding the mechanical fuel pump .. Some trim and interior work to go. Not perfect but pretty good I think.....

I hunted juniper in the early 2000's. Have enough bear here now so I get a chance every fall no need to travel now

I see the nys budget passed, so now we have AR's?
G-Man replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
Anyone think the ar language was added to crossbow in budget so it would be removed? Conspiracy theories welcomed...... -
I've seen more tillers in need of new parts from easy rock...
-
That is the best thing for deer hunting cut a few trails that go by stands and your set for next 10 years

The crossbow and ar were stricken from budget .. But crossbow has separate bills in play for full inclusion in house and senate -
Was 408 sort is in bear hunting section here from few years ago..wounded one with bow this year
-
As a bonus a 45-70 is also a legal rifle to hunt with in Ohio..should you get the urge to deer hunt there
-
The guides there recommend at least a 30 cal or 12 ga. You already have a versatile 308. Another 30 cal is waste of cash in my opinion..go get something fun ..
-
I specifically set up this 45-70 for bear hunting in new Brunswick.. Although it has become my favorite deer rifle as well ..even taken a few grouse with it by popping of their heads..

You can tell a deer is over three pretty damn easy. No brisket short legs sag starting in back..after that its a guessing game.. 1.5. Are thin hipped and slim waisted . 2.5 are between the two.. I have seen thousands of deer and horns are misjudged about 50% Or more of the time but bodies don't lie.

I try to shoot older deer points are irrelevant that's me personally.. Many of my.friends have started to do the same but I can honestly.say if you gonna shoot a small buck shoot a four pt. Or a spike..leave those 1.5 year old 7,8,9,10+ alone..you can spout off all you want about how a spike can be a 10+ but I will say an 8 is already an 8 maybe it will be just bigger or have more points next year. But barring injury it will be at least an 8.. A spike.. Who knows.. Most.likely born late..so it will take 2 or 3 years to catch up. Taking the best and healthiest via point restrictions in large hunting densitiy areas will high grade a herd same as cutting all the good timber leaves trees to grow but they may become large but are "scabs" never worth anything but pass on their seed and the woods are less diverse..

I would really like to see why someone wants ar's. Biologically not needed to reproduce... So

It is much more a woodsmanship skill that let's you read the land and knowing that game should be there.. I always see move slow then move slower.. I think its more important to know the lay of the land and when to move fast or slowly. An example I walk a ridge from south to north and I can usually kill game every time I walk it. My friend walks the same ridge and never sees anything..a nice four in snow fall revealed why. He walked it first right after the snow.. A straight line following the ridge at the same level the whole mile. My tracks the next day high on the ridge so my head is not visible from below..with spurs that jut. Down every one hundred yards or so so I could just see down below.. These spurs were done very slowly and quietly..then I backed out on same tracks and would move fairly quickly down the ridge to make another spur one hundred or more yards down the ridge depending on cover that was present down below me..if it was open I may go 200 yards.. Brushy maybe 75. While my body was his over 90% of the time my friends was visiabke the entire walk and deer simple would see him several hundred yards away get up and leave before he ever saw them. I can scan and find them in their beds or feeding by just peaking over the edge and glassing.. If I see one I want out of range I simple back out travel the appropriate distance out of sight and sneek back in to glass and locate my target and finish it with a short stalk if nessary or shoot from my observation pt.. Knowing how/where to walk is just as important as moving slow.
