I'm still involved with chestnut foundation..my.largest tree was registered and it provided pollen for many others.. Was fairly blight resistant.. Healed over a few times..bear climbed it 2 years ago and scarred the bark pretty good..blight over took it then... Another reason I hate bears..

I planted these as nuts in 1995.. . I have over 50 now from their nuts and some are crossed with Chinese and Dunstan..can't beat them for game..

Well my.three largest trees died so I got.them.cut down and found a guy with a mill to cut them into planks.. Largest.made it to 14 inches, I got a 10 ft.log from that one . second was 12 in .but only.got a 6 ft log from that. Last was only.8 inches.. Got an 8 footer out of it. Up next sawmill ,drying time and finally a new bar.. Love making things from lumber off the land! I'm sure it will be the only.american chestnut bar around.!

I have several that are hung every.year and no one sits in..too many choices I guess.. Did have a friend try a ladder that's been up for 3 years no one ever sat in it .. He saw the biggest buck he's ever seen and several bucks every time he sat in it..now everyone wants to sit there...lol

Not.impressed.with power plant..stick with clover.and buy some winter wheat or turnip seed...give you late season draw..

Always seems they think they see a head.. I thought you need to look for beard.. But you can hunt them 1/2hour before sunrise.. But its impossible to identify a deer 30 min before sunrise. So no shooting till sunrise..maybe they need to do that for turkey and ducks as well

Last two year had decent hatch..numbers are better than last year.

I really.have no problem.putting lands back into hands of private citizens.. At least taxes will be collected and.overall tax rate should go down.. If half our state lands were made private the tax burden would be paid many.many more...not to mention all the camps that were forced out to make state land continuous....so now state lands mature and habitat dwindles.. Most game animal prefer a patch work of different stages of cover. As for out west much of the land going for sale is grazed by ranchers anyway..now they can own and pay tax on it instead of the meager sum they are charged for grazing..

Toms were gobbling today off the roost.. The woods are very open so birds can see long way..think they were just happy to see the sun

Was quiet this am but got a trio of adults to come in and gobble around 730 and again at 8 15 am

Pelletized fish food is amazing for stocked fish.. Just get a small jar of largest size for koi that floats ..are soak and put in egg sac netting ... You will catch more stockers than anyone else ..

Never been turned around.. Lucky I guess or just very familiar to terrain where u hunt... My neighbor gets lost 50 yards into his woods .was lost 3 he's once..now he only hunts field edges....

Weekdays are better than weekends as I have friends that come on weekend.. Never know what weekend though

Unfortunately animals have been disneyafied. I remember my father shooting a dog in deer season chasing a deer. He pick up dog and dropped it at owners house and told them it was chasing deer..that was end if it..now.. I'm sure media and lawsuits would be involved.

If you need a bunch I have dried hulls by the five gallon bucket.. Thanks to squirrels that fill my sled with them every winter as it sits in rafters in barn...add water or acetone and soak and instant dye .. Good for traps as well...

Reloads? Perhaps brass is wore... Make sure its dead round and push out with good rod( fiberglass muzzleloader rod works well)

Have you tried walnut hulls? I love the color they produce and have actually dyed fabric with them

What it says" tasty " what is the deer suppose to do take it at its word?

Personally I'd cut the 3 trees in the photo.. And trim back limbs over the plot. If you drop the trees properly.you can make the deer enter that little plot from where you want them to for best stand site. Looks good so far ..keep up with the lime the soil looks good but I'm sure its acidic with all the leaf litter..

I believe them working for government was ruled unconstitutional for lack of benefits and wages in line with other government workers... Much of the depression era programs were deemed unconstitutional after the fact..

Spring and fall and deer.. Says you don't need fancy clothes or gun to kill game.. The older I get the more I agree with him. I am down to 3 calls (a push pin,pot and a box) and a foam seat for my.turkey hunting .. 10 years ago I had a vest packed to the hilt.. Seem to kill my bird faster with out all the extra stuff

And yet my 83 year old neighbor heads out in his red/black flannel jacket and blue jeans and kills his birds every year... Sometimes I think we make it harder than it really is.

They just pattern to tight for me ..like killing a bird with a slug at 30 yards.. I'll stick with my older xx loads

That same era saw them painting.. The Lancaster opera house entire wood work was painted yellow .. An amazing restoration they did to clean it all off. My grand father was in the CCC corps out west planting pines..
