  1. have you ever read bambi? its the most violent natural history book ever written... as for a state testing for cwd from road kill ect it came into the state via deer farms as it has many other states, i dont have a problem with deer farms, but feed can be bought local from local growers. as for shipping from all over i know i work for the rail road and transport grain everywhere by tens of thousands of tons. but a a responsible farmer you think your group would push for certified feed. as for the rest of your farming, if you raise deer to sell the meat , scents , velvet, hides, ect thats great. if you raise them and release then into another fenced area for someone to pay to hunt great. My concern is the spread of this and possibly other diseases to wild herds around the country mearly for profit ( if the deer are raised and hunted at the game farm where they were born i have zero issues) thus affecting the publics resources. For you to insinuate i dont like deer farms is an insult to me, i manage habitat extensivly for wild game that benifit myself and many neighbors indirectly. i enjoy watching a bision farm down the road and the local schools captive deer herd (seniors have a fisheries and wildlife management class available to them as well as their own cable hunting show). i just feel that as a wild game farmer your group needs to step up and stop the accidental spread of this by restricting yourselves rather than letting the $$$ drive your decisions.. exp. hunting preserves the bring in thousands of deer for hunts rather than raiseing and hunting their own...
  2. i started off for meat when i started hunting and still shoot doe for friends that want meat. but i have shot many small bucks and have held out for the top 10% that my property shows via trail cam. for those that want ar's remember what your first buck or several first bucks were, why would you deprive a younger /new hunter the enjoyment and experiances you had when you started. its a personal choice and everyone develops into it at their own time...the way it should be.
  3. i have hunted 50 yards from another stand.. but make sure the line is the line.. my neighbor was very upset i had a stand in a fence line that he believed was property line.. but the fence is on my property by 2 feet. when i had it resurveyed to show him. if he had put a stand up there he would be on my property... he put a tower 50 yards from it in the field.. i still hunt my stand but his guys dont seem to like that i hunt that close and the tower sits abandoned waste of $1000.00 for him i guess. deer travel the fence and i even offered him to use the stand i have up. he doesnt his loss....
  4. first, it seems that the cwd is passed more easily from animal to animal. and i wouldnt buy feed from out of state, especially one where the disease is know to exist. cwd id alway found on game farms first. as semen, or animal are bought sold and shipped elsewhere to other farms and game farms. why the heck dont we have a shipping ban.... the farms fight it because it would cost them$$$ . and that is the drive behind game farms... period for right or wrong. you are not conducting research to save the species, thats obvious. but in fact hurting it, to continue the practices of moving animals around potentially infecting disease free wild herds makes as much sence as bringing all the ebola patients to america for treatment.... ( and though the wild herd that is infected continurs to live on and thrive. it just doesnt make sence to contine buisness as usually and continue to infect states thru game farm shipments to others)
  5. though cwd may of started in the wild fact is it is being spread to other states via deer farms, even if it is in grass/hay feed..these are being used by deer farms.. perhaps 0 transfer of deer to other farms/states until a method is found to test live deer... and all of this is money driven not conservation driven....... as for the rest of the name calling/fighting..not needed... that is all
  6. i use a hip quiver... hold 8 arrows, 6 for deer 1 for turkey and 1 for small game. not sure how your quiver caused you to cut your hand?
  7. paula, problem is selling and moving deer around, spreading this disease.. some people want big racks and they will pay for them so be it..but when a wild deer puts its nose against a fenced deer and this spreads to wild herds it causes problems, the infected deer was brought in from pa. to ohio. perhaps a 10 ft fence seperated by 10' from enclosure should be mandatory...
  8. i would go with loose powder over pellets, you can really dial in a fantastic load and have accurate power charges. pellets though listed at 50 grain can weigh in from 43-53.. does it make a difference? yes. i have 12 different muzzleloaders and they all shoot different loads and different bullets to get the best group. speed loaders are as fast as pellets and a good short starter is a must. minimum charge to start and familiarize your self with the gun 50 grain for a 50 cal. sight it in for windage with this and a few in low (4in or so at 50 yards is enough. a 5 grain increase will raise bullet elevation approx 1 in at 50 yards.. you should hear a distinct crack when you hit your maximum charge (more powder than nessary and you will get a lot of flame and fouling out you barrel (your not burning all your powder and wasting $$$) most guns shoot well between 85 and 110 grain. bullet /sabot depend on twist of your barrel.. fast twist shoot conicals or sabots, slow twist roundball and patch. ( though you can shoot a round ball out of fast twist if you decrease powercharge so ball doesnt strip in rifling).
  9. http://www.bucyrustelegraphforum.com/story/sports/outdoors/2014/10/23/chronic-wasting-disease-found-ohio-deer-farm/17786995/ cwd found 1st time in ohio on yep you guessed it a deer farm.... ugh
  10. fine doesnt go to landowner. always to the state....
  11. few scrapes around, but there are always less when there are a few mature bucks around it seems. maybe they intimidate the 1.5 yearolds from scraping? at least thats my observation when i have more than 2 mature buck on camera.
  12. guy on lyndon center and abbotts? he only seems to be open for gun.. i wouldnt add pork to ground it spoils too fast, beef suet lasts alot longer in freezer.
  13. joe bilato? sp? 716 378 4409 and dwane, right off 305 near 86 expressway. i only had them do reg cuts on a doe i gave a friend 2 mondays ago. but they have a lot of equipment. i'm sure they do. i usually do my deer myself but for 60.00 i thought cut bonless wrapped and frozen was a good deal, especially when friend that wanted the venison paid for it.
  14. good one in cuba open now. hes the butcher for local grocery store, has walkin coolers as well
  15. they can decide themselves.. or they will just sit on ground under it when they realise they can't climb it.. my neighbor is 78 and still climbs trees, though he admits ladders are easier...
  16. i belive its goats teeth or goat relative, less than 4 years old.. as new teeth have yet to fill in the lower clipping teeth
  17. you need to have a life time muzzleloader licence, same as lifetime bow, they were all sold seperate
  18. rapid rail are my favorite can use as many sections as i want, use in crooked twisted trees and walk around limbs, ect., then sticks..ok but still need a fairly straight tree. i still use screw ins a an added handhold/bow gun holder..
  19. they should be close to same size as adult hen now..8-10lbs if they had good hatch. i've seen them the size of guinny hens from a late hatch. 2-4 lbs
  20. a hanger with a quick step/ladder sectional system. the largest aluminum you can buy.. most versital by far...
