Food plot help for next year- rough soil
G-Man replied to pitbill's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Spray it , burn off dead grasses, and plant. You dont need to do any more for small seed. Clover, cereal grain for summer , can do radish for early bow, turnip kales for later season. And winter grains. Corn or soybeans have to be deeper but you dont want to plow shale. -
Yes as much as i hear the complaints about ny buck quality and take ,i doubt that hunters would ever go for changes like these..

Interesting article, notice no gun during prime rut in nov. And the oh so short split gun season.. https://www.deeranddeerhunting.com/content/blogs/dan-schmidt-deer-blog-whitetail-wisdom/why-your-deer-hunting-state-will-never-be-like-iowa

The half acre plots will be a waste of seed ,coon and squirrel will wipe it out before deer get a chance. 3 acres good for corn. The half acres id look at radish for early bow, turnip for later season or winter rye clover mix

Can get doe tag signed over to you, or if you didnt kill buck in regular season then that antlered tag becomes either sex for muzzleloader season

Like a good food plot, 1 acre spot , clover ?
G-Man replied to luberhill's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
You could till, wait till again wait till again keeping germinated weed seeds unstable and thus killing them but everytime you disturb the ground you bring more seeds to surface to germinate, its more labor intensive and it is how organic seed beds are created. -

You need a 2 or 3 gallon sprayer, and a broadcast hand spreader ( i prefer earthway little more expensive but last years) I would not frost seed this year as you havent killed off weeds. You can but then your fighting weeds. With multiple specfic spray that gets expensive. Simply spray with gly after green up in march or april weather dependant ( round up active ingredient) many non brand name available cheap. Wait 10 days spray again. To kill any regrowth fron seeds. Then broadcast your clover over it and roll if possible or do just before a rain.. sit back watch it grow , reseed bare spots and mow about 6 in high after flowers turn brown, this will reseed and keep it thick. Mow about 3 or 4 weeks before bow season and maintain next spring by frost seeding where thin and mow high in. Late spring and fall to deter weeds. -
Dont over call, patience and scouting. Pattern your gun and if you can get a good turkey choke tube, you may need a sight put on gun if pattern is very tight for close shots..

Well hope new draft plan goe sin effect and urban areas get opened up for archery like the dec wants.

Slow movement , perhaps partially close other windows

Fawns may follow their mother this time of year but they are mature and can breed and survive on their own. I wouldnt worry about it. She raised 2 and will prolly raise 2 next year

Climbers are very limiting in that you need a straight tree preferable limbless, and the tree may be to far from your expected shot especilaly bow... where sectionl ladder let you climb around limbs and go in crooked trees . Climbers are up and down ,sections are easy up and down to leave and come back and are silent if left in place fore multiple hunts , can pull bottom sections for theft prevention As for brands, lone wolf , gorrilla aluminum, api, loggy bayou. Any manufacture that offers an aluminum and is a mamber of treestand manufacturer accossiation .
-
A good aluminum hangon and sectional mini ladder sections would be way i would go
-
Yep i remember the clamber to allow scopes on muzzleloaders ,i used a side lock for years, when they made scopes legal i bought one
-
Yep , and shotguns had to be smooth barrel until 1988. Then rifle barrel were made legal. Compound bows were illegal at a poijt as well but before i started hunting they were ma.de legal. Perhaps in the early 80s. Lighted pins were illeagal til the 90s. .lot of changes people forget about.. 1st release i bought was a true ball. Before that had to use tabs or glove .

1991.

Mine had a 4 ft kevlar sheath around end of rope by hook that lets me wrap anything i want. Been using it to pull trees down that hang in management cutting. Its.been through multiple creek crossings and pulled quite a few trees down that hung.. much easier to walk thru brush as the old cable was always twisting around anything it could with its loop memory from being on winch
-
I was happy with 50% now there are bows that their own weight of riser holds bow drawn... crazy.. and using fingers on a compound for years with a tab.. day releases were legal i think everyone bought one, cause it was just like pulling a trigger on a gun!!!
-
Yep and drawing and holding a bow with 90 % is cheating too. Unless someone is using a longbow or recurve they have no right to complain
-
Yep. After.a compound is sighted in it only.takes a few shots to again be proficient to 25 or 30 yards . Most archers i know practice for a month or.more before the seasonnand then never shoot an arrow untill they shoot at a deer. At least with a crossbow they have to shoot it off everyday and many do shoot at a target to discharge. So in fact they are practicing more than the archer who simply takes off the arrow untill the next day he goes hunting..... lol
-
I switched mine out last year was tired of metal splinters, actually got 10 more ft of rope on than wire at greater stregnth as well. Best move i made lot easier to work with and no memory like wire and 1/4 weight to pull thru woods.

I love when we are compared to ohio where its taken decades for archery/ crossbow harvest to surpass gun take. A liberal archery season. And allowed urban hunting with permits. Not apple to apples at all... The biggest problem in ny imo is the legnth of gun season. And the nonstop pressure that exists . I would love to see a split season of 5 or 7 days followed by 7 to 10 days of no hunting , followed by another short season.
