  1. Saw a flock Last evening head to roost in neighbors woods. So forgo the deer hunt in am.and head back to same spot for turkey this am. Hear a shot behind me 100 yards. Neighbor got his iff roost I'm sure, at 830 I could hear scratching behind me , and I see the birds headed toward me a but gonna pass by at 50 plus yards. I pick a spot where they will give me a clear shot as the cross a logging road. At 915 I'm done a nice young jake , birds break and my brother and friend converge to scatter spot and an hour or so later they both connect on a Jenny. Not a bad 1st day
  2. Our county coop has seed blends available, pick up at.local.office ( they also run booth at sportsman show) perhaps yours does as well
  3. My question is did you use an extended control gly? If you did that is the issue not the seed. Tractor supply sells both,as an example if you got the red jug that is the problem. Extened will stay in ground for possibly a year, tilled to soon as many weeds grow back from roots pieces if no dead you just spread them. Second it how big are plots? Small plots can be picked clean of seed by birds and if they di germinate by a few deer in a day. As for where to by local ,check are for local feed mills, agway, ect. You can also look up Pennington seed dealers near you on the internet. Best I can say as I am not local to that area
  4. I had a 3.5 hour drive to work . Put some tunes in and go!!
  5. That's perfect , no reason to look further. Ship to store and pick up in person get scope there and mount it right away.
  6. Sportsmans guide has some good deals from time to time and shipped right to your door.
  7. My youngest nephew connected on his 1st deer this afternoon , a nice doe at 90 yards , shot with my Henry single shot 30 30.. his father was sitting with him, liver and both lungs on a quartering shot , went 40 yards and dropped.
  8. Congrats! Stories are better than photos imo
  9. Most 2 lane country roads are 3 rods wide (16.5ft in a rod) for right of way or 49.5 ft wide. 30 ft is good rule of thumb.
  10. You have to be off right of way usually far side of ditch a d a few feet, and not shoot across only rules I know of.
  11. 500 to 750 lbs is poundage I look for ,but more importantly is the uv resistance most important if your leaving your stands up. Like ladders, Always remember to loosen straps at end if season so tree has room to grow, it will pop a strap a lot easier when it stretched to the max from tree growth ,, suddenly your 1000 lbs rating only has 50 lbs left before it snaps. ..
  12. I usually take a doe in the 1st week of bow season usually from one of my.outlying stands to leave my core doe family group area alone, I've passed quite a few already just hasnt seemed right.. so warm and next weeks forecast is even warmer seems like wed evening or thurs am will be day for me to take one. By end of october I tend to focus on buck only. Till gun. Since my nephews starting hunting and a few friends with young kids I let hunt my desire to shoot a deer in general has dropped I would rather see one of the youngsters take one and pass then thinking perhaps one of them will get one..

  14. It's illegal according to dec laws, not accepted by pope and young nor Boone and Crockett if game harvested. So no Thought involved .and you can t use a drone either...
  15. Few turkeys so far, were roosted 5 yards in front of stand..

  17. They maybe , would need better photo, makers Marks, ect. Dirks are.quite collectable and faked as well.
  18. Doe tags have to be applied for before oct 1, and a valid entire archery season, regular gun and late. , the either sex tag is good early and late season , if hes old enough to gun hunt then. His regular season tag is either sex during youth hunt and is only allowed 1 deer during youth hunt ( he cant fill his doe tag and then wait for a buck) must be 14 to use a xbow as it's considered a firearm under nys law
  19. Well more than likely bloat form whole corn someone put out as feed.. ,deer will gorge on it but can cause bunch of problems as they havent developed the bacteria to digest it. Bloat can lead to death, as well as starvation as belly is full but cant digest its food. , a fawn born this late is rare and usually indicates a very high buck to doe ratio when it does happen
  20. Was the same way when I bough my place in 93 ,always wanted a bear on camera.in 2000 as range expanded i got my 1st one. Then they expanded hunting area to include my land, and we saw a few but season was closed qst week of gun, then they made seasonnstart same.as gun and we have seen and taken several off my place now, now I get several different bears on camera. And someone usually sees one during season.
  21. 4 in alder off brassica plot
