Yes, it will work but you may want to add a radish or turnip into the plot thec1stvyear as clover takes 2 years to fill in and they would be a good attractant the 1st year. As the oats /winter wheat grow it will die out and then in ealry spring frost seed more clover in bare spots.

Well 1st you stated pretty novice hunter.. every young hunter i know wants to fill tags. I did when i was younger , then when my brother wanted a deer i fill my tags and give it to him... until he gave it to his brother in law..i didnt mind helping my.brother feed my niece and nephews but it ticked me off him giving it away. He only.has the doe my nephew shot in youth and about 18 lbs i gave him from my archery buck as i had no freezer space. And the hints of oh if you can have started.. not happening .. Perhaps with a few under his belt or perhaps intrest him in something his wife will eat ( grouse or turkey maybe.. ) someone posted a stages of hunting .. hes still at 1st stage...

100 acre is nice but 100 acre of mature timber is nitnthe same a 100 acre field, or creek bottom. Fortunatly you can transform a property to maximize its hunting potential especilly with arial photos available of neighboring pieces. I dont think the country would control where i could get it unless it allowed me to buy even more..

Just watched the dec live question and answer on. The new management plan. The holliday deer hunt is past the point to allow it to take place this year. They are reviewing the thousands of commets recieved still. But it is still part of their management goal in future... so it is a NO GO FOR 2020-2021 SEASON , but may happen for 21-22 season...

As for more deer and why? Ask alot of hunters on here and deer are scarce this year. Biggest reason smaller properties and habitat. Family farms are gone and broke up. Theu revert to woodlands and deer population grew as they are creatures of edge. Unfortunately this is also hurting many hubting areas as brush grows into mature forest deer numbers drop gone is their security cover. Fortunately many have taken an interest in making food plots , this is a temporary fix as deer still need safe cover for bedding and will bed quite a didtance and feed under darkness. A wholistic approch is best when trying to improve your hunting . Cover, security, food for all4 season are all required to consisitantly keep deer numbers up.

Cant say 50 years ago ,but 33 years ago there were a lot more doe and less buck, doe tags required 4 to apply, monday opening was vital to. The camp comroderie and economic health of small towns. Was more relaxed and multiple shots were common as driving deer or small pushes were common . We have more ballanced herd today , but everything is rushed to arriving at camp fri night, equipment upgrades, calls, scents... to me it maybe good hunting but its all become a contest on biggest, most ,ect.. Long gone is the time when any deer taken in camp was a celebration!! Hunters helped hunters get deer . Camps cooperated to. Drive thick large parcels . This it what deer hunting misses most today.

When i started hunting i killed a fawn i was didtraught, the leader of the camp we called gramps was in his late 70s looked at me and said its bigger than a rabbit and you hunt those so why would it bother you? He also gave great wisdom in saying if you can shoot it again than do so ,better to lose 5 lbs of meat than the entire deer with a bragging right of one shot kill. If it gives you a second shot take it! No need to be a hero, get the deer 1st and foremost.

Peehaps teams need to be leveled to same personal numbers by a lottery draw.. or a handy cap added like in bowling

I pass alot of deer every year, the oldest hunter in camp doeas as well . I enjoy watching them . Then at some point i decide to shoot. If i dont feel like it then i dont its pretty simple. When i decide to it doenst bother me ar all. I lost the rush of killing long ago.

I agree, ive killed more deer with my car than a lot of hunters i know 24 since 1987. Killed 5 in one year.. insurance wasnt happy. But i also put 30 k on a car a year. More time driving and more time hunting = more deer or at lest chances of deer. My colision shop. Said they wil give me a cake for my 25th.. been 16 months so far .. avoing the cake...

Hes in about a 9 acre lot, have my freezer full from archery, very thick area aganst my 20 acre sanctuary..he has a very good chance of making it to next year. If he was only missing a point he may of gat a bullet headed his way, but to much gone , shame to take him that way i think.

He was a complete 8 then snapped his g2 near beam, a week later his beam was gone. Id still like to see the ine that beat him up.

I assume they are purple top or apin turnips. , they may not hit them till january, but next year they will pull them out early. Radish tops and tuber are prefered earlier in the year with turnips prefered later. The lack of snow is big factor as well they will dog thru snow for them but no snow leaves lots of natural browse avaiable and that is usually prefered over food plots in my experaince.

I gave this buck a pass tonight as its living between my house and my neighbors. Like to see what he will be next year.

Were quite a few birds around last year, this years hatch was fae better , so far mild winter will help. Them out. Should be lots of jakes in the spring, hoping my nephews cannget on a few of them.
-
There are at least 3 jakes in that photo by feather coloration.

I prefer potted real trees, plant outside, makes great screen and bedding cover. Good way to enhance your property ,with out the mrs getting upset your buying trees for deer??
