  3. Dang means I will have to be in the treestand at 5:30 am to let the deer settle down before the neighbors push them back over to me when they ride to there tree stands on the 4 wheelers
  4. Walk behind trimmers is for tall grass and weeds ... think green . I have a dr trimmer works great for weeds and tall grass . Sounds like you should be looking at a brush mower... think wood / brush . You are looking for lawn mower on steroids. I can rent a billy goat brush mower for 35 bucks a day.
  5. Yup thank you to the mod that moved the thread .. We need a mod thats a regular. The crap was making things miserable. Have to be honest the ignore thing worked wonders.
  6. Wow an entire day outside ... fly fishing .. socializing... and nothing changes on here.. people still pushing politics in a general thread . I have never used the ignore feature here ... I guess I give some of you more credit than you are do ... no more ... 4 people have been ignored. Carry on with your ignorance.
  7. I have never seen a black woodchuck .. that's cool .

  11. It has been years since I fished the salmon river . Can't stand combat fishing. I will be honest last time I was there with my son he was 20 years old and it was full on combat fishing in the chuck it and duck it sections . I did manage to find a few of the places I use to fish with my grandfather. My favorite spot now has 3 houses blocking the trail that use to go through a horse pasture . Looking at my vacation schedule I have 4 days not scheduled. I'm not big on paying Douglaston money to fish a place that we use to fish for free . So.. I had thought a trip with a guide would be interesting. Dont want to do a drift boat as l am looking to use my spey. I have been talking to a guide named Jay Peck. Anybody familiar with him ? Anybody recommend somebody else?
  12. Wife has one .. 243 in muddy girl youth . Trigger really kind of sucks . I can get an inch at 100 yds . She gets closer to 1.5 at a hundred . I offered to get a trigger job on it and she told me not to touch her gun . It will do the job .
  13. Crossbow i guess ... handgun ... change them out through the season.. try to give all them a little love . I was at the gunshop today and they had a 460 s&w that I would love to have . The price has gone up $500 since last year.
  14. I have had the misfortune of butchering hundreds of deer for the family and a few friends me A few bear... some pigs and a few cows . I learned from my uncles and my gramps . I do it because its the cost of doing bussiness. While I can't say I enjoy it any more , I would rather do it myself than pay someone else . Always get my own carefully handled and clean meat back . Back in the day we had large groups processing deer . Now its just me and the wife. I butcher she packages. I have taught more than a few how to butcher. Most decide to pay in the end . I always offer to help but I won't butcher someone else's deer anymore . Last year my son shot his first deer in many years . He thought I would butcher for him . He was surprised when I said no . I made him come up and we butchered it together while his mom pacckaged it up . Probably the most fun in many years doing it . Drank a few beers and enjoyed fresh backstraps on the grill.
  15. I started hunting in the early 80s. Party permits were the thing ... almost never got to use them as my uncles would fill them while I was at school . There were deer but not like there was in early 90s. Probably didn't see as many because I was a newbie hunter. Gave up on the northern rubber boots for tennis shoes and plastic baggies. Lighter weight and quieter. Hunted with an Ithaca deer slayer 12 guage . Moved up after first year to brennecki slugs. A much improvement from the foster slugs.First camo was military bdu . Still had to wear orange cap gloves . No day packs ... only what you could stuff in your pockets. No tree stands. Didnt have them dont think I ever heard of them until later. First deer I killed from a tree I climed an oak and set in the crotch of 2 big limbs . When gramps found out he peeled my ass for doing such a darn fool thing .
  16. Pots and pan deer drives ... large groups of family hunting entire hills and valleys . Going in at dark with a canteen and PBJ sandwiches. Coming out after dark . No stands still hunting . Getting dropped of alongside a highway at 6 am and hunting 5 miles back down a ridge line to be picked up at dark by my mom on the way home from work at 5 pm . Stopping at the dec check stations checking out the deer being inspected. Buying slugs at jc penny at the mall. Deer strapped to top of the family wagon. Successful hunters treated like heroes not villafied. Sitting next to potbelly stove listening to my great uncles and gramps talk about the good old days .. scorching my Woolrich pants while dosing off. Great memories.
  17. My grandfather use to play on the guitar and sing old dogs back when I was little. Will be missed
  18. Loss of another great https://youtu.be/cvC1T0invro
  19. I would love a new truck .. nothing on the lots and no incentives being offered really ... new prices are through the roof . BIL says wait until fall or early January. Reloading I'm pretty set . After 2013 I made sure I bought when I could find things . To the point I was hoarding before it was cool . Picked up molds for most of the guns I shoot . Just a matter of setting up the casting pot and having a few hours to get it done.
  20. Computer glitch triple post
