Acorns this year

How are the acorns doing in your areas this year?

I went out the other day to check a bunch in my area, the white oaks seem to be doing pretty good. A few nuts on the ground, but not that many, most are still on the trees where they belong.

This is one food source I never figured did much for me during hunting season. Usually by the old bow opener every acorn had fallen and been eaten where I hunt weeks prior. Not sure if even with the opener earlier there will be any left. I always read about folks hunting the acorns and scratched my head because they are long gone by hunting season.

Not around me, theres always some still on the ground during the first part of the season. We have a ton of oaks though.

funny i took the same picture today from a white oak outside my house lol. They are dropping normally on trees by me always have some drop early then by middle of next month they will start dropping like crazy.

Are those reds or white mbucks?

They are good in our area this year. Mostly whites.

White oaks in 6G are the healthiest ive ever seen them despite the lack of rain. They are plump and still hanging on the trees for me.

My white oaks are dropping heavy and the deer are responding

big time.The other oaks are big producers to looks real promising.

Are red oak acorns less desirable than white oak acorns? If we have seen what acorns, Anyone have an pics of red oak acorns?

Depends on the area and whats available. White oaks are the most desireable from what I have noticed. If those arent around, they will hit the reds just as hard.

Great post and pics guys..looking forward to hunting my oak stands again this year, last year had to be the least I've ever seen.

I'll report back when I head out to the oak stands this week.

I do have boatloads of apples at my apple tree stands, always another great food source.

I was hanging some cams yesterday and saw Bunche of acorns around. Good sign. There were many times that I stopped walking, thinking I was hearing walking deer. Turne out to be falling acorns..next best thing to walking deer
