No - same as Doc.

No person shall dispose of carcasses and parts of animals of the Genus Cervus or the Genus Odocoileus or the Genus Alces in a CWD containment area, except those parts removed in the field during normal field dressing, unless such parts shall be disposed of in a landfill authorized pursuant to Part 360 of this Title. Transfer or treatment of the waste prior to disposal, at a facility authorized pursuant to Part 360 of this Title, is acceptable

Only mention I found so far on the DEC website was regarding wildlife that was found dead.

http://www.dec.ny.go...imals/6957.html

"Carcass Disposal

If there is no reason for submission and it is desirable to dispose of a carcass for sanitary or esthetic reasons, two options exist:

  • Burial in a location that will protect both surface water and ground water from contamination.
    • Keep at least 200 feet away from wells used to supply drinking water.
    • Be sure the carcass is covered with at least 2 feet of soil.

    [*]Disposal at a landfill.

    [*]Triple-bag carcasses in all cases."

looking at dec website now and as far as disposal of carcass the main concern is in a area with known CWD .

Part 189: Chronic Wasting Disease

(Statutory authority: Environmental Conservation Law, §§ 3-0301, 11-0325, 11-1905)

[Last amended January 11, 2012]

We don't have a "Mad Deer Containment Zone" anymore anyway.

lol like i said i was looking at the DEC web site and this was as close as i got for the proper disposal of a carcass.... unless you look at the fishing reg's wich are actually more in depth. as for your (local) laws????????? example.. city of Auburn trash is to placed in clear bags... begining at 5am of day of pickup. large items (sofas beds ect... you have to purchase a large item pick up tag ($10.00) in order for it to be hauled away. like i said at the state level the law and or rules are very slim where at the local level...... best of luck to ya.

It's stupid to think deer die in the woods?

Yup no doubt, But with the chance of it even being out there why would you not make sure that we are not throwing it around if by chance one of the deer we kill have it. There is so much thats not known about cwd, Like is it passed around by the yote or the bird that eats the cwd infested deer. Just would be on the safe side to dispose of them somewhere where there would be less chance of passing it around. In my humble opinion anyway!!

Man you just love making stupid remarks dont you!!

The first part was a joke, I think you lost your sense of humor.

As I said though, deer die naturally all the time, and the only CWD ever found in NY was in farm deer and a wild deer or two right near that farm, possibly escapees or deer that came in contact with the farm deer.

i dont bear hunt and never hunt near the pile anyway... its put out and usually not long after we head back down to Long Island so i dont see a problem with it.

and personally with all the cams running over deer carcasses i have yet to see someone post a pic with a bear eating over it???

The guy who owned the place was a taxidermist who did work with animals from out West. He was keeping fawns in the shop where he was doing the work and they probably picked it up there and spread it to the rest of his herd. There was also something about capturing wild does and putting them in with a big captive buck he had to get bred and then releasing them.

He sold deer to the other farm that tested positive for Mad Deer disease. The two "wild" deer that tested positive were killed in the area directly between (within a couple miles) these two captive herds.

Well im glad someone on here knows some of the story anyways. Never heard of the bringing in of wild deer. That sounds kinda strange. As far as Mad Cow... Never in a deer. As far as selling to other farms with a problem, I dont see how that can be seeing though there were no other cases. They believe the wild deer came in contact with the salt and remains of the deer from out west that he dumped in the woods on his property. Bottom line is that cwd came in from out west and untill there is a law in place that stops all hunters from bringing in deer parts from other states, It could happen again!!
