Like I said, the only real frustrating thing about this is having to wait 4 months for your permit, heading over to the shotgun/rifle division, and the $200+ combined fee at the beginning. But all that stuff you only have to do once in your life.

So the finger printing fee ($100) and the application fee ($120) are a one-shot cost only. Does that mean that you can add as many guns as you want to that same permit without any additional money?

finger print is one time fee. permit is a 3 year permit so you have to pay the $120 every 3 years but can just mail them in. The first time is the only time you have to actually go in person. You have to register every gun you purchase but registration of the gun is free (cost of stamp no counting). You can buy as many guns as you want but you have to wait 90 days between purchases.

Oh that kind of sucks. So if you run into a great deal where somebody is selling off an inherited collection or something, you can only buy one of them every 3 months. I suspect that that pretty much means that you will only get one of them if the prices are good, and the others will be long-gone when the 90 days is up. Can't for the life of me see the justification for that rule.

I have bought two guns within a month of each other. I just never sent in the registration for the second want till months later. Not recommended since that meant I was holding an unregistered firearm for a couple of months. Just saying it can be done.

The strict check has its pluses and its minues. The good thing is that it is a one time thing. Sure when I was getting mine I was frustrated as heck. But now that is behind me, I do get a sense of comfort knowing that not any crazy criminal can just go in a get one. Now the ridiculous restrictions on the other hand...that's another story. The AR-15 and the Henry Lever Action are two rifles I want that I cannot get.

There is no amount of money in the world that would get me to live down there and put up with it! I'd clean calf pens for $8/hour up here before I'd ever Subject myself to that.

I can't see any pluses from here. From what I can remember that nutcase that shot up the movie theater didn't have any criminal background, neither did Charles Whitman and I'm sure there were others. Besides, the ones with violent criminal histories don't buy their guns in gunshops anyway.

If that's the case then my guess is that they probably won't be all that happy if you bought home a gun without their approval anyway. Unless you live on your own.

Well let's agree that automatic weapons are not in this conversation since they fall under a whole different set of regulations. (although some would argue that the 2nd does cover those)

Or you can just get a bow or crossbow and hunt with that. No need for licenses or registration. Just need to take the bowhunting class and purchase the bowhunting license.

Yes, its a very tricky one... You are only allowed to posses a crossbow in NYC if you are actively hunting... yea, so... I take that as being illegal. At least, that is what I have been told, I have not seen proof, and it has now sparked my interest...

I just sent a message to a friend in the license division of the NYPD, i'll see what they say.
