landtracdeerhunter
By a unanimous vote, Niagara county lawmakers voted to repeal. They jumped on board along with Wyoming and Chattaraugus counties. Prior to the meeting, more than 150 protesters staged a rally, in front of the county courthouse in Lockport. Are other counties going to follow? Don't know how far this can go?

Doc
Ok, so what exactly does this mean? A county cannot repeal a state law can it? Is this just a position statement, or does the measure have some real meaning?
Early
I'm quite sure a county cannot repeal a state law. This is, however, a good sign. My guess/hope is that a majority of counties will follow suit...cain't hoit!
joe12
Ulster County voted in favor of repeal as well last night http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20130220/NEWS/302200340&cid=mostclicked
Doc
Well, this sort of position statement by a county, may take off and spread across the state from county to county. Most likely if this became the official position of a overwhelming majority of the counties, there probabaly would be some official state legislative action that would get that goofey law repealed. That may be wishful thinking, but I do see some hope in one of our counties starting this sort of thing going.

HectorBuckBuster
I wonder if buried in NY state laws there is something if a certain percentage of counties vote again a state law does that mean it has to get another vote.
landtracdeerhunter
I don't know state goverment well enough to know what several, if not all counties, affect this appeal will do to the state law. I do know that the higher courts, will no doubt, make the final decision down the road. Having a vast number of counties appealing, may make a the court decision. Doc
My guess would be that if there was an overwhelming support shown by counties, some enterprising politician might decide to cash in on that sentiment to propose a bill that would repeal Cuomo's law. And if that kind of overwhelming support were to happen, those sleaze-bags that voted for Cuomo's gun-grab probably would see the wisdom in turning on that law and voting for repeal. jjb4900
does anyone know what all these counties voting to repeal this law really means? does it hold any weight on its own or does someone need to take this this information to a higher court and try to find it unconstitutional and have it totally repealed as a state law? Cuomo already said he does not care that the many gun dealers will refuse to sell to NY as long as the law remains in effect, so I assume he feels the same way about the counties repealing it on their level.
