tuckersdaddy
typical for the ammo. my 10/22 gets all fowled up after a couple of bricks. alot of 22lr has a wax lube on it the sticks to everything in the action. almost makes you feel guilty when it gets that bad! josephmrtn
lol and this one has had 1000's of rounds thru it without a cleaning !!! i would run a bore snake thru the barrel and spray WD40 in the action but this is the first time i REALLY cleaned it Edited August 6, 2013 by josephmrtn
tuckersdaddy
Carb cleaner from the parts store works pretty good too. just be careful of plastic parts... they become different shapes!
josephmrtn
i used rem bore clean... AMAZING stuff!!!
HuntOrBeHunted
Looks like the action from a model 64. I have one as well and they take a beatin before needing to be cleaned up !!
ants
22's shoot dirtier than hell. If you shoot them a lot, its a good idea to strip them down once a year and give them a good scrubbing. Last year I broke down 2 870's that I own. One I used of ducks and the other for upland hunting. They're both over 20 years old and had never been taken down before. Unbelievable... Besides the gunpowder residue I found dried pieces of golden rod, cat tail, small feathers, seeds and a bunch of crap that I couldn't identify. fasteddie
I found that the Remington 22 ammo crapped up my rifles & pistol . Gave away the Rem 22 ammo and went with American Eagle and Winchester ..... no problem .
132 eight pointer
The Marlin .22 I bought a couple of years ago states in the owner's manual that modern ammo fires cleanly and therefore cleaning of the firearm isn't neccesary, yeah right. thphm
WD40 / Junk. Use Gun Oil.And only a light coating.
Dinsdale
WD40 / Junk. Use Gun Oil.And only a light coating. +1. And don't be using that knife to be scraping on parts. You can find cheap plastic picks in a craft store (think dental tools but plastic) ; that and a couple old tooth brushes.
josephmrtn
it was packed on so hard that the rem oil and toothbrush wouldnt get it off... i had to scrape it...
Culvercreek hunt club
... i had to scrape it... Just reading that sounded like nails on a chalk board. Don't ever scrap on it unless it is plastic like Dinsdale said. Carb or Brake cleaner works great and if you have to soak it.
josephmrtn
i was not SCRAPING in the strictest sense i was more using the point to get it out of some corners it was packed in...

Culvercreek hunt club
Thats what they said about the Ar's in vietnam..... LOL They did sell them a bill of goods withthe initial manufacture didn't they? Probably one of the most fussy guns I have seen about grime and dirt. The AK could be used to dig a hole and still fire.
chiefbkt
A 1:1 mixture of acetone and transmission fluid. Put it in a HDPE or Nalgene squirt bottle and you'll never need anything else for cleaning metal, removing ceased bolts, and freeing up non moving parts. Just don't get it on or near any plastic or use it on painted items.
ants
Thats what they said about the Ar's in vietnam..... They didn't even issue cleaning kits with the first M-16's because they were not supposed to need cleaning....Wrong...
