BizCT
Typically when hunting with my xbow I use my Dad's rangefinder. Well he just bought an xbow, which means we might be hunting at the same time now with xbows. I probably should look into buying one for myself. Any advice on what to get? I don't need anything crazy, just something good for close ranges. My Dad's is a really good one, so I will still use that for trips out west for long distances. Thanks in advance. BizCT
Did a quick search and see this one has good reviews and is only $139 instead of $199. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunting/Optics/Rangefinders%7C/pc/104791680/c/104752080/sc/104525280/Redfield174-Raider-550-Rangefinder/729064.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Frangefinders%2F_%2FN-1100062%2B10000051%2FNe-10000051%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104525280%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104791680%253Bcat104752080%26WTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104791680%3Bcat104752080%3Bcat104525280#BVRRWidgetID

Lawdwaz
Leica CRF 800 is what I use. Others cheaper maybe as good?? I heard Leupold has some great ones also. I like the small size of my CRF 800 and I only replace the battery every couple years.
Five Seasons
definitely need something that reaches out to 100 yards if you're using your xbow but seriously, I have a basic busnell that works great. You can select standard/rifle/bow. Rifle will compensate bullet drop based on some popular pre-loaded calibers and archery will give you a corrected distance based on your angle. you can also select modes that ignore heavy brush. I think it was around $100? idk i got it for christmas.

Leafs, twigs and even small saplings are no match for the bolts fired with laser like accuracy and speed.
jr.deerslayer
I did a quick search and this Redfield fits your needs. Normally 199 down to 139. Very good reviews http://www.cabelas.com/product/Bargain-Cave/Optics/Rangefinders%7C/pc/105591780/c/105675480/sc/105677280/Redfield174-Raider-550-Rangefinder/729064.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Frangefinders%2F_%2FN-1102695%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_105677280%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253Bcat105591780%253Bcat105675480&WTz_l=SBC%3Bcat105591780%3Bcat105675480%3Bcat105677280
phade
Redfield is a good option. Bushnell's Chuck Adams edition if solid, but it's more geared toward bowhunting than gun use as the angle compensation halts at 100 yards.

BizCT
Nikon prostaff 3 is 6.3oz and 5.1 inches in length. Redfield Raider is 5oz and 3.7 inches in length. Think I am going with the Redfield for $139 on sale instead of $

noahmstone
I had a Nikon prostaff 3 that was great I bought it for $150 on sale last year. It burned in my garage fire and I replaced it with the Simmons for $109 this year. It seems to have accurate readings and just as easy to operate as the Nikon. MACHINIST
This is what I have used for the last 2-3 years and love it http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunting/Optics/Rangefinders|/pc/104791680/c/104752080/sc/104525280/Bushnell174-Yardage-Pro174-Scout-1000-ARC-Laser-Rangefinder/721130.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Frangefinders%2Fbushnell%2F_%2FN-1100062%2B1000002937%2FNe-1000002937%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104525280%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104791680%253Bcat104752080%26WTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104791680%3Bcat104752080%3Bcat104525280 My friends use these and they like theirs also http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunting/Optics/Rangefinders|/pc/104791680/c/104752080/sc/104525280/Leupold174-RX600i-Rangefinder/1360955.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Frangefinders%2Fleupold%2F_%2FN-1100062%2B1000003881%2FNe-1000003881%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104525280%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104791680%253Bcat104752080%26WTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104791680%3Bcat104752080%3Bcat104525280 One thing I do notice with the 2 units. If I range something at 25 yards theirs will read 31-32 yards its always a 6 yard difference.I actually tape checked mine and its dead on.I am not sure if they have to get their RF adjusted or what.I know they shoot as good as I do because they are sighted in for what their RF says. BizCT
6 yards off? that sucks....they should get them fixed.
Doc
I've had a Nikon for about 5 years. I have never needed to change the battery. Every year before I head out hunting I check it out on my archery range where I have stakes every 5 yards out to 50 yards. These were carefully laid out with a 200 foot tape measure. I check it out at every stake just to make sure that accuracy is good throughout that distance. It has never failed and always reads exactly the distance of the stake that I am standing next to. I don't have it here with me so I can't say what the model name is. They probably have renamed it by now anyway. But I can endorse the Nikon name.
