Is this a good deal?

I may have an opportunity to buy a Matthews switchback xt for 400 bucks. The guy says it's never been shot (not sure about that but we'll see), and it's not set up. What do you guys think of that deal.

Hopefully its a better deal then the guy that wants 1100 for a bone stock Bowtech Assassin on CL, that has been fired.

Basically I'm shooting a 2004 PSE nova that was only 250 brand new and set up. It was my first bow and served its purpose but if I can upgrade to a top end bow for a good price i'd like to.

I think you could find a better deal on a newer bow, fully equipped.  If you get on Archery Talk you will find plenty of bows on there set up around that price range.  Just my opinion.

I agree, go on Archerytalk and look around. I bought my Hoyt Maxxis on there for $400 and it was only a year old at the time.

$400-450 will get you a high end ($900 new) 2012 on AT.   Of course, it depends on the bow/manufacturer.  Some hold their value better.

the switchback xt is still one of matthews best selling bows. While the letoff is not as smooth and it's not as fast as some of the newer bows it's quite, simple and great shooting. There's something to be said for no frills, basic and reliable in my opinion. I shoot the original switchback and bought it 6 years ago with a site and wb and nothing else on ebay for $500 something. I think that's not a "good deal" but not bad. If I remember correctly the xt is a little shorter limb and a few fps quicker.

I have a SB XT I bought last year on archery talk. I got mine loaded and with a new string, d loop, peep and hard case for $530. Such nice shooting bow.
