Just heard a neat story. Last year I reported on here about how I helped a 70 year old guy gut and drag a 4 pt. on opening morning of rifle. Late October this year the neighbor saw that same guy drive his atv up to the woods and about an hour later drive back down dragging a buck. It turned he went up to check the path for downed trees. He brought his bow along and decided to sit on the ground underneath a pine. After only a few minutes he had a rut crazed 8pt walk directly at him and offered a shot at 15 yards. He drew back and shot what happened to be his biggest buck in 40 years!

I had the safety off on a doe 100yds offhand decided not to shoot. I had three voicemails on my phone I was worried about and wanted to check on and no service. Let the deer walk jumped in my truck and drove down the road to check. It was the neighbor, he shot a doe and wanted me to have it.

Why do people shoot deer they don't want themselves? Did you want him to shoot you one?

He had asked me last week if I could use another deer, to which I replied yes. He already donated one to the state and told him I would have taken that one too. I don't quite get it myself. But I do know plenty of people locally that would love to have some venison. I may acually give it to a friend anyway. I still have 2 tags left.

Mmm...nope. Never say that. I tagged myself out yesterday afternoon if you care to read the harvest thread. Presumption much?

And in terms of pre-daylight shots and all day gun barrages, this year has been a major Redneck Rampage in my neck of the woods.

So, ye...I'm glad to be able to stay out of the woods and do other things today. Thanks for the concern tho.

Lol sorry! Guess the cold and no deer is getting to me....I do know what you mean about the redneck think neighbor shot like 30 times yesterday afternoon

it would be nice if local churches or food pantries had a list of local residents who would want a deer.........I hate to say it, but dropping deer off to some random butcher with me having no idea what happens after I drop it off doesn't sit well with me, after seeing what goes on in this Country as of late I'm not too sure I'd want to put food in the mouths of some.

Slept in today, be out most of next week. Those out hang in there, two decent bucks were killed on the farm yesterday,and I had a small one with a limp in The woods last night .

I would have taken him , but never had a good chance .

One of those rare days (3H) where I looked forward to climbing down the tree to help my dad out with some chores.

Cold and quiet, counted 4 beds from my stand, as sun came up.

Hunting private land, heard a buck grunt (tending I think, 5 relatively short equally spaced grunts-only done once I think it was a deer vs. a person).

One cool thing about this snow is you can go and confirm what you thought you saw through all the trees and out range was indeed a deer.

back in ...my feet just couldn't take it any more....lots of fresh tracks and I am glad I had the field glasses for I may have shot a 3 pt with a stupid big rack...thick ...out to ears and curved way out over his nose...with one little tine near the end on one side....He finally turned back and stopped 15yrds infront of me broad side...then trotted away...nothing else....will eat warm up and head back out with toe warmers...

Nice snowy day. The snow is still soft sand quiet. Cut some old tracks and some semi fresh beds. Taking a break to sit and cool down, then back to working around towards where this tracks were headed. Hunting in this kind of weather is great, learn so much about the deer.

      It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

      The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
      You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

      I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
