Live From the Stand / Woods 2014!

I was covered in deer tonight. First hunt in a week so I decided to skirt the area and not take the climber so I wasn't a ball of sweat. I stop at 2 fresh scrapes and was looking at the trees to pick a spot for a stand and in the 45 seconds that I was standing there, 2 deer had slipped in on me and spooked. That was at 4:15. So I jump over the ridge and set up at the base of a pine overlooking 2 more scrapes. From there it was crazy. I had does coming in from all angles, but instead of walking the trail they all decide to walk straight to me(10yds). Then 7 came in downwind behind me and milled around(15 yds) trying to make me move. If I hadn't picked the pine with dead branches to my left & right I might have been able to roll out for a shot. The one doe which was coming right down the path and to her death got all sketched out because of the herd behind me stomping their feet. I saw more deer tonight than I have all season. I smell days off work in my near future!

Wind Is dead calm, very cold and not one deer. Seriously this has to be my worst season I've had in a longtime. I barely get 30 photos a week on trail cam. No shooters on cam and haven't even laid eyes on a deer I'd take. Haven't seen a doe since the beginning of oct. Wth is going on? No sign

I have about a 1000 acres to hunt split between about 10 properties. Only concentrating on 3 farms. One I'm in now is 145 acres. 30 planted corn 40 planted alfalfa. Maybe 10 acres of corn still standing. I'd say the corn has a good amount of deer holding up in it but jeez no.deer moving in the hardwoods? Un real

Finally what a beautiful morning I had..late start so went to an ole faithful stand and spook a deer on the way...... but with the trails cleared one quik snort and that was it...so quiet out there, NO WIND :D  in the low 30's, heavy frost on every thing. I sat and just as I was cooling down from walk in I hear a epic fight break out across the gully they went at for several minutes and all over the ridge crashing and grunts, snapping limbs and locking racks ...it was a heck of a shoving match as well,,,,then it got quiet and I hear crunch and snapping coming toward me ...it's 6:30 and a beautiful starry morning but I can't see a thing...he finally got close enough ,my tracking the sounds of his movement and I could pinpoint the outline of his body,30 or so yards out. He was one of the big boys and I knew exactly where he was headed...right to bed.......as he passed by, another fight broke out across the gully and racks were crashing I heard what almost sound like a scream  followed by snapping and something getting pushed through the woods...that settled down and at 7:05 more steps coming from where the big boy had crossed through. A nice fat doe with twins in tow just 15 yrds out...season opens at 7:35 here and it was still pretty dark...they headed toward the farm feilds. All settled down, so at 8 I did a few grunts and with out a sound and on one of the cleared trails shows a small 1 1/2 yo 8point...he gave me all kinds of shots 10-30yrds then stopped broad side at 30 yrds to finish destroying one of the pines I planted a few years ago...then continued the way I'd come in...after that I watched deer walking out of the hay feilds and called in another young buck...he hit our woods looking hard for the grunter then circled down and around me....never got a great look at him other than a small body and some head gear....will definately be back out after I warm up and get PT exercises  done..Nothing but blue skies...now I'm stoked!

I hear us Gino! I am not seeing them either. My one property the guy across the street better cut his corn soon. I am thinkin they are tight over there.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's the only thing I can think of.. I get the lull and all but no night time photos. Not a great sign. I have a cam in a thicket off the standing corn and nothing there either.

Geno I'm in the same boat I've seen 4 deer and or been out 15-20 morning/ afternoons. Very slow start.

Very slow lol mm I hear ya. Hope it picks up soon.

From what I saw this morning they are on their feet eating most of the night the bucks are roaming...for I hear them out back...sleep with the widow open and can hear them in the leafs...and they wake the boys that then bark. I watched them coming out of the standing corn feed across the hay feild and back into our woods to bed down or travel through to the swamp on the next ridge line down the hill.....the big boys looked to head to bedding just at day break and the youngins were still up and roaming ...they definately were coming into the calls

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
