Ebola.....

Went to a Ebola preparedness meeting at the hospital I work at today. Seems like the space suits those nurses were wearing may have been the problem. Not an equipment failure, but a training failure. Best guess now is that the nurses , while in the process of removing the "suit" contaminated themselfs. The suits were unfamiliar garb, with a definite process requiring aprox 15 min to don or doff. There should have been training, practice and oversight before and during use of this gear.

so you'd take a trip to Liberia?

THere is no question it's an issue in Africa. Don't be silly.

I've been though this in my career with SARS, H1N1, now ebola. It all goes away.

they're the same suits we were as hazmat responders. they're ridiculously expensive. Require a minmum 24 hour training class with annual 8 hour refresher. They require annual leak testing and there's many little tips and tricks like bringing in a hand towel to wipe the face mask when it fogs over. It's not just as simple as putting the suit on. Lots to donning and doffing too.

Let's hope you guys are right.  I still can't understand the hesitation by our country or others in banning flights from these African nations.  People claim that there are NO direct flights from this part of Africa to the US, but the agreement should be an international one where NO flights are allowed in anywhere.  Surely banning flights to only one or a few countries probably wouldn't work.  Hopefully we ducked the bullet this time out, but next time we may not be as lucky.  Keep people OUT from these infected countries where the disease right now is running rampant and you pretty much have solved any potential problems.  Easy common sense solution, but as usual it's way too much to ask for.

how could he/they justify closing down the travel from those countries an not making a more straight forward effort to shut down out boarders? that would basically be saying that you can't fly here but you can fly to Mexico and walk across.

Steve think on this a moment:

You have some well funded and totally brainwash radicals out there ...they are raging war where ever they can, but really want the US bad...they have plenty of ppl ready and willing to die for the cause...they are already embedding in these less that sanatary countrys...or can get a large number of ppl to them...they make up many races...including caucation...

What better way to attack a country like the US who's southern border is all but shot...but to get many followers infected with Ebola or any other rapid killing virus and send them off to do some travelling to well traveled tourist and vacation spots...cruises in the US...What a perfect way to hit an all so important infrastructure ...sucking the resources out of the Government...think about that a bit

If ALL nations did not allow flights in from these African nations, you wouldn't have to worry about our southern border.  It has to be an international effort, and Obama as leader of the free civilized nations should have been at the forefront with this.  That of course would be asking for too much of him for a number of reasons.

Ebola is not really the easiest transmitted virus, every one in a hospital setting is aware and preparing should an outbreak happen. Sme of that preparation is over kill IMO but it's better to be over prepared than under.

Unless a person is in the final stages of Ebola it's not any more scary than any other nasty thing you could catch anywhere in public.

I bet you ten bucks a drug company is working on a vaccine that we will see soon. They will then be even richer when folks line up to get their shot.

Old news. My brother and a few others I know killed it with Tekmira Pharmaceuticals about 3 weeks ago.

media driven paranoia.

You should now all realize that how your acting is exactly how uneducated people act about gun control when the media scares them a little.

Do your research before you freak. I have been on several conference calls with my company and very knowledgeable doctors. This is NOT an issue. You should NOT cancel your travel plans.

Get a flu shot. Rest assured more people in this country will succumb to the effects of the flu virus rather than ebola.
