phade
What would you startup and why? Although a small amount and probably even a smaller amount for what I'd want to do... I'd start a small scale venture capital business. I have enough smart people around me that I could leverage their expertise to ID winners, give them a sweat equity stake into the investment and then play it out. That way, I could relatively speaking, maintain my current employment and have the business work for me. If it doesn't pan out, it doesn't pan out. VC is usually micromanaged, but the key would be IDing the ones where minimal or realistic management would be plausible. Hit on one or maybe even two if super lucky...and everyone involved will benefit. Edited December 29, 2014 by phade
BizCT
Unless I had many millions of dollars, I wouldn't spend $200k in a start-up. Instead, I would invest that $200k in hopes of making millions. Imagine you had $200k against Oil in one of those 3X inverse crude ETF's? Up around 400% in the last 6 months or so. But if I had millions, and looking for something to do. I would probably buy a nice piece of property out west and charge $6-$10K for mule deer hunts after a few successful years. Fantail
Im not sure 200k is enough to bribe coumo's phoney start up team. But if it is, id only suggest you merge some skills, trade or craft, add some experience into the dream or passion you persue and turn it into some dedicated work. Luck is just a recipie can go either way.

Agreed, but the premise was starting a company of some sort. I guess this is outside the bounds of the question.

Lawdwaz
Keep it to a business you can get off the ground with 200k. Your about 8 months late........I'd have sold you my business. Plenty of franchised businesses to be had for a couple hundred K down if you want to go that route....................... How old are you, what have you done for employment in the past and now? You wanna travel? Buy a big rig and see the country! This conversation should get interesting.

BizCT
Keep it to a business you can get off the ground with 200k. Not sure if it would exceed $200k, but what about a small motel near one of the new casinos coming to NY? That and a little shuttle bus. You offer cheaper room rates than the casino and free shuttle to/from the casino.

OK, then Four Seasons is the man you need to talk to for advice. Of course he'll probably charge you for the advice, but what would you expect? He always says that hunting is all about the MONEY. Hopefully he can throw in some advice on mullet care for free.
FloorGuy
My dream business would be a QDMA style management farm on our family property. We have 150 acres of pasture, swamp and woods. I would love to work with the DEC and come up with the best use of this property and make it self sustaining. Not about making a profit, more about giving young people a quality place to learn and grow in our sport.
