What species do you consider vermin?

The reason I asked is because I feel your beliefs are fine and you're entitled to them, but not too many guys would share them at camp. I'd get a lot of funny looks and ball busting. They might start asking why I forgot to bring my salad and gluten free beer to camp with me.

Do you really see being pro-predator as liberal? Does that include bear? Just wondering... "your beliefs are fine and you're entitled to them" of course.. but do you understand that just because some of us don't see the need to eradicate coyotes doesn't mean that we don't enjoy hunting them.. If understanding that predators are a necessary part of the wildlife equation is "pro-predator".. then I am sure most intelligent people would be pro predator. I don't even remotely get how the remarks of ignorant buddies at deer camp would justify equating being pro-predator to liberalism.

I think being self described as pro-predator means you are against predator hunting.  But that's just my interpretation, and I think many other hunter's would say the same.

If someone using that moniker doesn't want it to be interpreted that way, they would be wise to explain themselves.

Raccoons, Wild Turkeys, Wild Hogs, Opossums, Skunks, Rats, Red squirrels, Woodchucks, Moles, Mule deer, Antelope, and Porcupines. Take them all away in that order and I would be a happier camper. I could take or leave the coyotes, as they put a hurting on the turkeys and raccoons and I like that. I just wish they would leave the deer alone. At least they take more bucks than does, which minimizes overall population reduction. They can have them rutted out, old bucks, which are easy picking for them in early winter, having spent most of their energy chasing does. It is a shame that so many fawns, food that is "fit for a king", should go "to the dogs" however.

wow, someone happy that Coyotes are putting a hurting on the wild turkey population and killing old rutted up bucks...that's gotta be a first. I thought there was a place for all God's creatures on this planet?

Bad punctuation. If my memory serves me right he was involved in some political discussions showing he leaned to the left. One of the two makes sense but both?

A mental exercise on being pro-predator (and pro-scavenger):

If you were a Hindu, and were going to be reincarnated and could choose what species you would come back as, what would it be? Who would choose low on the food chain? Who would choose high?

Also: I wish it were legal to do here what the Zoroastrians used to do before all the south Asian vultures were killed by the veterinary drug diclofenac: They put their dead out for the vultures to eat. The ravens I am currently feeding can consume an adult deer in 2 1/2 hours. A woman who fell to her death last hear in the Pyrenees was consumed by Griffon Vultures in 25 minutes. Don't burn me. Don't bury me. Feed me to something. Spread my molecules across the landscape in raven and eagle droppings.

Birds leave behind the bones.

You could choose Hyena.

They'll crunch up your bones pretty good too, and reduce you to a pile of pellets;

Look at your avatar. So much better than a sickly dog with a high chance of dying from disease.

My avatar has a high chance of eating lead, or getting caught in a leg-hold trap is the Quebec canine trap zone. They all have to migrate through that gauntlet twice a year.

Best chance for a healthy long life - if you survive the early years - is a snapping turtle or large snake.

If it is survivability we're talking I'd say a red bellied newt....they can regenerate some body parts....have enough neurotoxin to kill an adult human....also flash their red coloring to warn off predators and live in an area filled with tree hugging "granolas"...with pretty good weather.

guess that's the risk you run when you're a garbage eater....

If you can survive though infancy, then I would go with a giant panda. You become a national treasure and have life handed to you on a silver platter. No predators and have humans tend to your every need.

Definitions from Dictionary .com that align very well with the way I have always used the term:

1. noxious, objectionable, or disgusting animals collectively, especially those of small size that appear commonly and are difficult to control, as flies, lice, bedbugs, cockroaches, mice, and rats.

2. an objectionable or obnoxious person, or such persons collectively.

3. animals that prey upon game, as coyotes or weasels.
