Liberal Thinking Interesting......

Recommended Posts

That's an oxymoron, since conservatives are totally against anything politically correct.

Political correctness : agreeing with the idea that people should be careful to not use language or behave in a way that could offend a particular group of people.

In this case conservatives.

You do realize this thread is about Liberals being offended by the Redskin team name right?

It's the Conservative opinion that people are trying to suppress and are taking offense at.

I wasn't the one that brought up the term "political correctness"

As far as you're concerned, it might just as well be Area 51.

i remember that psycho babel report masquerading as science, but it was all based on theory, and bias as far as I'm concerned.  I'm sure a similar study exists proving Liberals are mental defectives, but I see no reason to post it as I don't give psychology any weight in scientific research.  I saw the post as a desperate grasp at a straw to solidify an already defective belief system.

I just can't understand how REDSKIN is a slur, while "WhiteMan" or "Paleface", or even "Redneck" is not considered a slur..

I guess it's a good thing that I'm getting older and won't be around much longer..

I'm just getting SOOO tired of this " Politically Correct" bullshit.

I'm sooooo tired of this "conservative political correctness". Anything that doesn't fit their tunnel vision perspective is a "rant".

Again & again their reactions to any differing opinions as a threat prove the scientific findings of the study that was quoted in POST #62

I wasn't the one that brought up the term "political correctness"

Sorry, but I believe you were.

Again, you are running you mouth before you know the facts.

Sorry.  I didn't read the entire post by Pygmy.  He did in fact mention it.

But at least he was accurate in it's usage.

(And it's my fingers I'm running)

As was I unless you have a narrow minded "conservative" mindset.

But then, that was thoroughly covered in POST#62

I'll have to give it to ya, that was clever. I really mean that. I got a chuckle out of it. Much better than your usual drivel.

I understand that you "conservatives" have problems with "theories". Evolution, gravity, etc. All that science can be confusing when it overwhelms the brain..

Wildcat's references to Post 62 in the Federal Employee/Porn thread is based on solid science. I did not post the abstract because it was going to be a struggle for some on this site. Instead I posted the Wikipedia version - which is much easier to understand.

The point is, the brain structure of conservatives and liberals is different. The reason isn't clear and may be a chicken and egg question. The same thing is true of homosexuals and heterosexuals. Their brains are physically different.

Given that our politics and sexuality may well be due to biological reasons, how about we forgive each other and move on?

To most people I know a redskin is a tasty variety of potato. I have a Native American farmer friend who proudly calls himself a redskin, hates the Washington Redskins only because they're from DC, and sells redskin potatoes to me. To him it won't be an issue until he's forced to change the labeling on his bags of produce.

I've been called a 'white cracker' a few times in the past. Though I prefer the term 'Saltine American' I'm not going to spend any energy pursuing it in federal court, and if a sports team wants to call themselves The Crackers I won't take it personally.

Never been called a cracker, but I have been called a honkey and a gringo.

I have a long time friend ( an educator) whose politics are extremely liberal..

I call him a " pinko commie faggot" and he calls me a "Nazi Redneck". We long ago we decided to agree to disagree.

He once asked me if I would shoot a 16 year old for coming in my house and stealing my tv set. I told him that I would give the little scumbag a good 3 or 4 seconds to GENTLY put the set down and leave before I blew his wretched guts all over my living room.

I have a similar life-long friend. We've agreed to not discuss politics when we get together for a few drinks.

If I met him today the only thing we would agree on is that we couldn't possibly be friends. I'll be the best man in his wedding in August. 45 years of friendship and history will trump current politics every time.

The cracker comments came mostly when I was hired as the only white guy on a residential framing crew in Louisiana in the 70's. The 8 of us learned a lot from each other that summer.

The primary difference here is that being the recipient of a "slur" buy an individual is quite different that having a tax payer subsidized, nationally recognized, immensely popular organization like the NFL using one as a name for a team. I live just a few miles from the Akwesasne Mohawk reservation. I worked closely W/many native Americans in skilled trades. Maybe that's why my perspective may be a little more sympathetic towards how they might feel about this subject.. .

How they might feel?  Did you ever discuss with them how they actually feel?  From what I've read, most native Americans don't have an issue with it.

Seems the one's that do, and it's not many compared to the entire native population, are politically connected, being paid to push the agenda or stand to profit politically from the protest.

This has nothing to do with how 'they' feel as a group. This is about how some people feel the need to be outraged for others. Outrage by proxy, as it were.

I don't understand why this is a liberal issue, I know plenty of conservative who agree with the name being changed, but more importantly, you have a whole group of people both conservative and liberal called native americans that object to the slur name redskin and do not object to the tribal, place or given name of our weapons of mass destruction.

Native americans brought up this issue in the first place and many people have come to see it their way on this issue, why are more conservative not seeing it their way? Why is it that mostly conservatives are voicing opposition? Wouldn't a conservative want to conserve a people rights and respect? or is it that conservatives really want to conserve the america of 50 years ago complete with bigotry and racism? No one other than a native american can tell you if redskin is a slur or not, the rest of america's opinion is interesting but irrelavant.

Simply put as the first generation son of italian born immigrants you do not get to tell me what i find offensive, I'll tell you!
