catskillkid
Has anyone been selected for a special draw permit for 2015 yet? My friend and I were both drawn for eastern Colorado deer permits. Took 6 preference points and 6 years of waiting. Should be a great hunt though. The outfitter that we chose to go with has consistently taken 190" or better mule deer. We are going on the last rifle hunt of the season in December. Has anyone hunted the northeast portion of Colorado in the Sand Hills region? If so, please relay your experiences.

Lawdwaz
Closest thing I'm getting for 2015 as far as "special permits" is going to be a Handicapped Parking Permit.

Hookedup
My 12 year old daughter drew a NM youth elk tag for this year in one of the top trophy units. Should be an awesome hunt this October. They have had record rain fall in that area this year should make for some great antler growth. Sean

Congrats on your draw !! I have hunted mulies twice in Colorado, and taken two nice bucks, but I never have hunted the eastern part of the state..However, they kill some monster mule deer bucks there in the grasslands and river bottoms...GOOD LUCK !!... Dinsdale
Struck out on NM Elk.....again. Hope those that are getting a tag post some pics if they connect!
catskillkid
My friend who won a stone sheep hunt in the Yukon a couple of years ago has drawn an elk permit for this year in the Valles Caldera Elk Perserve in New Mexico. Only a 1% chance of drawing the tag and he got it! Has an great chance of shooting a 380" to 400" class bull. He is a lucky bas^&$#. With his luck, I'm sure he'll draw a Maine moose permit now too.
Terry
I am waiting to hear back from Maine, NH, and Vermont on moose, and Kentucky for elk. All are pretty low chance, but my preference points are building. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
wolc123
The muleys have big antlers but bad meat. Not even close to a NY whitetail in flavor. I would give it away and just bring the cape and antlers back if I ever took another. If you have dogs at home, they would be ok for feeding them I suppose. The elk out there are another story entirely however, quite tasty and it is hard to believe they come from similar habitats. What rifle/ammo will you be using? I used a Ruger, M77 & 165 gr Hornady light magnums. I would go with 150 gr were I not on a combo elk/mule deer hunt however. Decent scenery out there, but not as nice as our Adirondack region (unless you are into "high-desert"). BellR
I don't suppose anyone drew a gator tag in FL and is looking for a "guide"? The way my luck has gone this season in the lottery for tags I'd be surprised if I get to do much hunting. Still some hope for Phase III of the process, but I'm not holding my breath. Anyways, if anyone did get tags in South or Southwestern FL I'd be glad to help fill them in exchange for some of the meat. I have all of the gear needed. BellR
The wife and I just got our tags for Sambar Deer on St. Vincent Island NWR in N. Fl. Should be an interesting hunt, even if we don't get anything.

catskillkid
Hi All, Here are the results of our 2015 late season Colorado eastern plains mule deer hunt. Had a great time and saw even larger bucks but the wind was playing tricks on us in that open terrain. Mine scored 188" and Joe's was 183". Going back when I can accumulate more preference points in 7 years. Hope I live that long!
BizCT
Awesome bucks. Too bad that one was busted up, or it would have scored even higher. Regardless, I would take either of those anyway. Mule Deer hunting is definitely my favorite species to hunt. Wish I could do it every year. I went to WY in 2012 and 2014, and hopefully will hunt muleys again in the coming years.
