best gun to shoot rabbits

me and my son went out rabbit hunting shot at a few with a 410 shotgun hit them but they ran far till i finaly found them

  Yeah you have to be dead on with the old 410 it can get the job done but I like the 20 gauge to get the job done.  I always use 71/2 or 6 shot.

Me and my dad have never shot anything other than 12 gauge at rabbits.  We like #6 with modified choke.

If I am jumping brushpiles myself it is my .410....if I am hedgerow walking on a nice sunny warm winter day it is the .22.....for cottontails with dogs it is the 20...and for whites it is always the 12

I use an Ithaca single shot 410 some of the times, but mostly I use my Fausti O/U 12 gauge. I use the 12 gauge more as we have plenty of grouse which calls for fast shooting and the occasional snowshoe rabbit. As for shells I like to use #6 express.

I tend to favor the .410. If you're shooting the 2.5 inch loads, try the 3". It'll likely shorten the distance they run off.

My browning sweet 16 does a great job on wabbitts and anything else without the 12's kick.

16 ga myself as most of my rabbits are taken while hunting grouse.

All my rabbit hunting is with beagles....I have used  mostly .410s for the last few years, but probably the most effective rabbit gun I have is an Ithaca SKB 20 gauge side by side choked IC/Mod...

Rabbits are easy to kill..I have never seen any need for heavy loads in the 20 gauge..The cheaper low brass game loads in #6 shot work fine.. In the .410, with it's lighter shot charge, I use 3" shells, also in #6..  I have used 7 1/2s and they kill bunnies just fine, but sometimes they put more shot pellets in the meat than I like, so I stick to 6s...

Hunted rabbits my whole life with dogs using a single shot .410. You don't want to blow them up + rabbits die very easily, so a few BB's will do the trick.

if u wanna go out to have fun and not ruin much meat a 22 is really fun! really tests your shot on a running rabbit. If were doing compitition we use 20 gauges.
