So we can start bitching about next year and maybe set a new page record here what’s going to happen in these 10 WMU’s.
1. Cross bows the whole archery season.
2. Antler restrictions
3. 1 buck weather with gun or bow
4. two week early doe only ML season in October starting the Monday after the youth hunt.
5. First two weeks of bow doe only
So put this away I bet I’m right that these 5 things. Are going to happen so if you think this year’s bad for some of you guys just wait till next year.

I think I heard Hurst say that this doe only archery experiment where bowhunters are mandated to manage the deer population, will go for two years and then the next phase of an early muzzleloader season will be implemented when bowhunters fail to satisfy the DEC with proper deer population numbers. So we have two years before a lot of those items happen. They are using the deer population to drive all the items on their wish-list that they have wanted for years.

5. they will not just loose revenue they'll be starving for funds...What I see in that list is 4 ways they DEC is going to screw themselves.

2 years out but you're right otherwise.....the golden carrot is they will tout more mature bucks are running around that ever due to the now almost nonexistent deer population and the need to wander into finding mates. Bad chit ahead no matter how you look at it.

Since everyone else posted their praise I'll throw mine out. 1-5 suck and are for folks trying to compensate for a lack of hunting effort.

thank god I'm not concerned about antlers........but, either way I think it's a sh*t deal for those who are.

There is a good chance that the DEC is in the process of doing PETA's work for them. If hunters are not leaving the ranks fast enough, the DEC seems determined to speed the process along.

The changes they made will affect the season but the past couple of winters will knock numbers down too (for snow belt folks).... No census but they tout great management- ugh

I don't really have too much of a problem with your 1 - 5 other than doe only first two weeks. If they do all that and then move gun opener to December 1st I would be stoked.

Most states have that early ML season for antler less to help keep the herd thinned. It's annoying but people get through it alright.

We were promised this when we all supported an earlier bow season opener.  If you recall, it was supposed to be a 3 deal package.  Earlier bow opener, early youth hunt AND early muzzleloading season.

 

The muzzleloaders supported the bowhunters and were betrayed when the bow hunting lobby pulled their support for the muzzleloaders after getting what they wanted.

 

The powerful bow lobby got their earlier opener and immediately removed support for the early muzzleloading season and still fights against the youth hunt.

 

I am a bow hunter but I do not think bowhunters should rule the states hunting seasons to the exclusion or detriment of the rest of the hunting community.
