Coyote gun

I am looking for a coyote gun. I don't know if I will go bolt action or semi auto. Most guys I know hunt with ar's for accuracy and a quick second shot if needed. Looking for opinions on the perfect coyote / fox gun and what caliber.

Yup.. a lot of guys are going with AR set ups. I just talked to a big time yote hunter who recently  switched to an AR, from a bolt gun in .223, because a lot of times he calls in doubles and wanted faster follow up shots.

Was just about to post this same topic....have a few extra bucks that i made from selling a reloader and am looking to spend 400 or less on .223 for yotes...deff looking for suggestions.

Already have a 3-9x40 new vortex scope I will try starting with, so just need the rifle.

I find it sad that a ny compliant ar is anywheres from 800 to 1100, but a regular one starts at 600. Talk about getting screwed again for living in new york

some guys say mini 14, then say they aren't anywheres close to being as accurate. Damn, spend a thousand on a gun then 400 to 450 on a atn digital night vision scope for a few months out of the year? Prices are ridiculous

I would hesitate to say a lot. theres a lot of videos they go 3 for 3, 4-4 and so on. The long range running shots amaze me.

Still not hunting if you open fire with a full mag AR and tracer rounds on game. But, that's just my opinion. I would rather miss with a bold or pump then treat an animal like scumbag that just shot up the bar I was in. Like I said, just my opinion.

Tracers are illegal in ny. That being said, don't lump everyone into one category. Thanks for the opinion though

.223 is solid coyote and fox gun. 22-250 a bit much on fox from what I've read. Another vote for AR platform but like others said you're going to pay for it. Tool around on Bark at the moon site for some ideas too.

Don't forget your shotgun with #4 buck is very effective too at closer ranges.

Mini 14 / 30 won't really save you much vs an AR. Unless you can find one used, but I highly doubt that.

Dpms. They are all solid shooters. You should plan on getting a new trigger though. They do have some " hunting " models too

If you go to Bowsite.com / NY , Pat has a post where he is using a not expensive .223 bolt action with a good/ pricey night vision scope . He and his son seem to be making out pretty good with that combo.

The mossberg MVP is a sweet 223 accepts are mags bolt action. Little on heavy side but as accurate as anything I've shot...

Personally I'd go 22 250 bolt action

22 250 is a nice round. Everyone I have talked to brings up the point that your Nato rounds are cheaper to shoot so that points me to 223 or 556.

How so?Most of the fire power you all use is overkill.Its one thing to hunt and kill them but if you are someone looking to sell the pelts than the smaller hole in the hide makes more money.I remember my Dad using a club to kill them when he had his traps.

So many times it has been said Shot placement is the key to a Hunter or Target shooter.More gun/bullet is only going to be accurate to the shooter.To say that a 22 is undergunned for any game is a farce.
