growalot
Shawnhu..I have actually been very patient with you. Now you need to get a grip little boy. You come on here with your impudent blitz attacks and then calm down for a week or two. This tells me your being made to feel either, inadequate at work or at home. What ever the case grow up and deal with it like a man. This cyber bully mask you don to bolster you from feeling inadequate is translucent. It reveals your true childish tyrannical nature. For all your flailing around trying to make me look less than intelligent, you shine a spot light on your own impudent life. If you have a tiny little bud of an idea your nasty little stalking of me will have me leave...Well sir that flower just won't bloom. PS...yes on the. Kindle.if auto added or dropped anything...I'm making dinner and not checking...so pot stir away to those that have that need on them

Pygmy
The guy who was the main game warden around here for many years was legendary. He would lay on his belly in the mud all night long to make a bust. I was checked perhaps a dozen times by this guy and never once did I have any idea he was around until he jumped out of a bush or popped out from behind a tree. He worked hard and must have loved his job. I don't even know the name/names of the local fish cops nowadays, but I guarantee you that back when he was working as a game warden, EVERYBODY who hunted or fished in southern Steuben County knew HIS name..

I new of one local Gamey in Ontario County......he stopped by my friends fairly often to check carcass tags and shoot the breeze. One time I saw him working Naples Creek on Opening day, undercover. He seemed like a good egg. Probably retired now............
NFA-ADK
I think most of the Game Wardens are hard working and enjoy protecting the environment. Not exactly a high paying job but in NY they are one of the highest. Nothing but good experiences with them over the years and happy they are helping out. Paula
I am sure all are working. I did not mean to say that they don't, we know they do bust lawbreakers because they put a few in the regulations book.

Doc
I think that like nearly everybody here, we have way too little association with ECOs do really pass judgment on how good a job they do. I know that these game cop shows on TV make it look like those states have the best and the smartest in the nation, but remember that these guys are the PR reps of their state fish and game departments and they understand that it is useful to them to always show themselves putting their best foot forward while the cameras are on. I am sure that the show is scripted to a certain extent, heavily edited, and those depicted have been chosen as special representatives because they don't screw up very often. But I wouldn't be surprised that if we spent all day around our DEC people and actually got to see how their day is spent, we might actually be a bit impressed. I guess I will assume that they are doing a good job until shown that they don't.
growalot
So to this discussion I found that this may be an interesting read for some: http://www.jcope.ny.gov/advice/ethc/92-03.htm
landtracdeerhunter
Is there room for improvement, definitely. I think the problem lies at a higher level. The penalties are not severe enough for judges to impose on the law breakers. Hit people where it hurts the most, others will sit up and take notice. Jaeger
On Long Island I've found the D.E.C. Law Enforcement Officers work hard are polite and very very helpful, from which tactic to which spots are better for what game animal and more I have nothing but respect for their efforts! When I lived on LI out east, I found the exact same thing. Polite, helpful and understanding. That is an area of the state where people call in just to disturb your hunt and the Officers know it and try not to ruin it for you. Duck hunting is a major example, people will try to turn you in even though you're fully legal. When I lived on LI I got to know all the local ECO's personally just through field contact and sportsman shows. Very helpful to get to know your local ECO. I tried that up here in the Catskills, but the local ECO's here seem to assume everyone is a poacher and they are very suspicious of everyone. Can't say I blame them based on what I've seen and heard. But tough for someone who always worked with them and enjoyed their advice and direction. Critter4321
Hazard spills, air pollution etc are all part of environmental conservation. Fish and game laws are only a small part of their job description, very small. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystem all I'm saying is if your understaffed let the state police do the checking of exhaust fumes hence they are the ones with the equipment to do so. why have two different departments checking the same thing? Critter4321
ok before this goes to a pi$$ing match let me explain the NYS DOT run by the state police dept has to carry and maintain the equipment needed to check exhaust fumes.and yes I understand your comment about DEC officers being state troopers however you want to slice it feel free! I just said if your so understaffed then perhaps having double departments doing the same job should be changed Believe me I would rather see the DEC out in the field doing checks and trying to keep hunters and fishermen legal!!
