Heck, Doe...you should move up there right now, with your wife ( SallyWhacker)  and your kids ( WeenieWhacker and TallyWhacker)....

My Alaska trips were DIY and unguided, so I've spent a couple of weeks (several times) living in the wilderness in small tents with  minimal creature comforts.

It was a wonderful experience, but it sure was nice to get back into town and get a hot shower, a soft bed, and  a restaurant meal.

It was also nice to go to the can and not have to carry your rifle in case you are interrupted by a grizzly bear.

pretty sure the Kilchers on "Alaska The Last Frontier" are far from paupers......The one daughter of Atz Kilcher is the singer Jewel.

Have a friend who has a friend that lives in the same town as the Kilchers , I think either Hanes or Skagway ( I've been to,both ) . The Kilchers don't live in the "homes" they show on tv they all have nice suburban homes .

And Giligan was not stuck on an island either .

I look at it this way, unless you're afraid of the jihad invasion and stock market end of days that is always supposed to happen but doesn't then society isn't so bad. There are many issues we can all agree or disagree on that are troublesome. I'm a pretty experienced diy and I love the woods and I'm more interested in sitting alone in a treestand than going to a club. All that said, we can't enjoy a lot of what we do without societies help. Just sitting here typing these words there are thousands of people working jobs making it all work. I love movies, I love good beer and wine, I like internet porn lol. I enjoy toothpaste and clean clothes. I'm sure with enough work I could make my own whiskey, but how many books can I bring? How good is my imagination? idk... I guess I'm happy with life, so I don't understand the desire to leave it all behind.

you wouldn't want to live in a one room shack with all your adult children??

Well that show is forever ruined for me.  I did wonder why they still busted their butts living like that with Jewel as a family member.

when did they rescue Gilligan???

He never really did get rescued.  They stayed on the island for so long that eventually people discovered the island and built a resort on the other side.  At the end of the series, crew stumbled onto the resort.

I'm guessing they live like that for the show.  Then they go back to suburbia in-between seasons.

I'm amazed by the fact that a family full of mentally challenged people can actually pull that off......personally I can't even watch Alaskan Bush People.

Yet, they do. They build cabins with minimal tools, and seem to get by. I know a lot of younger people who wouldn't know a joist from a joint ( yes that is meant how it reads ), or a support from a bra or jock strap.

Yea, but they don't know the difference between:

A dentist and a prosthodontist

Pinot Noir and Port Wine

Tapas and Vietnam food

A videographer and a cinematographer

An ETF and a mutual fund

And so on and so on

Point proven. Biz knows what a joint is. LOL

There are a lot of people who live the "Bush Life", and aren't on TV. I bet they would call us all candy asses for eating at a fast food joint.

You can say quality over quantity but I'm curious what the life expectancy is for those who live that lifestyle. Many of them don't have children that follow the same path. What do they do when they're too old to continue to live that way?
