fasteddie
The guys are here installing the Generac whole house generator. It was 62 degrees and I got the gas stove in the family room to work . Can't use the blower motor as we still don't have any power on . Oh .... the sacrifices we have to make. grampy
Way to go! I'd love to get one installed too. But will have to keep using the old pull start generator for now.
mlammerhirt
Nothing wrong with the pull start and when do don't feel like pulling get an electric start....don't lose power long enough to invest in a whole house generator....portable generator hooked into a transfer switch does just fine at a quarter the cost. maytom
I was thinking of having that done some day as well. Guessing for the entire job, plus equipment, around $2300 - $2900?
fasteddie
Maytom. ...the generator itself cost $3000. That doesn't include material and labor. Had to change cable coming into house. Move meter to outside. Run gas line across basement and then change direction of gas line. All total about 10 grand. It's worth it for peace of mind . We have a high water table and under ground springs so we get a lot of water to the sump pump. Average about 3 power outages a year.Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Culvercreek hunt club
And since this week is the 25th anniversary of THE ice storm, it seems like a perfect time.

ApexerER
I would love one of those some day but it is pretty low on the priority list for me.....I live just outside Saratoga so we rarely lose power for more than an hour or two.....I rarely fish the generator out of the shed, actually can't remember the last time I used it.....I used to go grab it when the power went out and seemed by the time I get it hooked up and started the power is back on...now I just wait....It would sure be nice to have an automatic standby by like I said.....low priority for me at this point... fasteddie
The price of the unit wasn't too bad . The installation and extras they had to do jacked up the cost . It would have been cheaper with a new home as I believe now the gas meter and electric meter are required to be outside and next to each other . A guy I talked to had the same thing done by the same people and it cost him $2000 less as it required less material and work .

The state keeps changing the rules/codes for everything construction-related and it's expensive and time-consuming for contractors to keep up. I have no choice but to pass my regulatory costs on to my customers, and the only people who are happy about it are the bureaucrats. I'm happy you were able to get it done Eddie! It's hard to put a price on peace of mind when it comes to family and property.
fasteddie
The initial cost of the generator was $3700 and I signed up for a Lowes Credit card and got 5% off the price . No sales tax . It is a 16K kw and should be just fine for the two of us . They did some digging in the frozen ground and I told them to just leave the dirt pile and I would get rid of it in the spring ..I will have to do a bit of landscaping and put some sort of picket fence enclosure so when the grandkids come over there will be a deterrent to keep them away .

Merlot
Although I haven't had it done, I'm set for a Generator. Gas line tap installed where the line comes outside where the pool heater used to be. Just gotta find 3 grand for the unit. 10 kw unit should be enough.
fasteddie
The generator will do a self test each Sunday at 7:30 am . I told my neighbor that if he gives me any crap I would move the time up to 2 am . Actually , we get along great .

My father in law had a submersible and a stand up in his sump crock . One was set higher than to other to be activated and it seemed to work for him . He had two different drain hoses .

fasteddie
I thought about that and also a battery backup sump and passed on both after reading reviews on the two of them . I forget what the line water to sump water ratio was but people gave that a poor rating as well as the battery backup .
