First freshwater charter

While at an outdoor show a fee months back I won a salmon fishing trip on lake Ontario. I'm not a real big angler by any means and have never fished for salmon. Just trying to get an idea of what to expect. It will be an 8 hour trip out of Wilson marina next Saturday the 18th.

Do whatever the Captain and mate says. Take the pills a day ahead unless you know you won't be affected. Don't give pills to the others so you can reel in their fish while they are pukin. Be prepared for foul weather. Bring cooler and ice. Tip captain and mate if you can. Have fun.

Just take Dramamine in advance for a precaution. Bring some food and whatever the captain tells you to have. Be sure to have your license and don't strain a rib reeling in a monster salmon. One of the greatest fresh water fisheries in the world right here in our backyard. Enjoy it. A charter is what got my family hooked 30 years ago.

Dam,   Did you win my Pa,  Pa Smurf charter !?    Dramamine will put you to sleep & delay the puke to the next day.  Try some ginger root capsules. You can take all you want,  take 2 about 1 hour or 2 before & anytime after. Unless its really windy Ontario is usually  pretty good(flat). Get ready for the Kings.   Good luck & enjoy the day!

Don't forget the sunscreen, a hat, and pair of sunglasses. A good pair of sticky soled shoes will come in handy once you get some fish slime on the floor of the boat.

There's a lot of light bouncing around out there on the open water and your eyes can get strained fast watching those rod tips against the bright sky.

Most importantly..... don't forget the camera!

Good luck!

I'll add perhaps a bandana to wrap around the face Buddy fishes Lake Erie quite a bit and always wears one to cover face. Like Wooly said lots of light bouncing off the water that gets under your visor of hat.

When I was fishing Erie, a bandana would have really come in handy to keep down the sand fly intake!

On a calm day the entire boat would be COVERED in those damn things and there was no relief from them until we got back under power.

No worse feeling than bugs crawling in every open orifice they can get into as well as getting them squashed into your clothes and on your lunch, lol!

Not sure how bad they are on Ontario this time of year though.

I'll definitely make sure I'm prepared for the conditions. I've never really spent much time on a boat so I'll take something for motion sickness just to be on the safe side. Wooly, I'll definitely make sure to take a camera but I don't think my photos will ever compare to yours.

Still happens!  Last week we had them everywhere & I still have them squashed into the tee shirt I had on after it was washed . My buddy put sun screen on his bald head & 10 min. later it looked like he had hair which he could have parted We laughed our a$$es off !!

Also Do Not take any banana's on the boat the Capt. will toss you over board!  (bad luck on a boat)

Out of curiosity have you ever tried a thermacel? I've got one, maybe I'll take it along and see if that works. I've never heard of the banana thing before, I'll be sure not to bring any

Apparently auto correct thinks I should have typed banana instead of bandana

Not so sure the Capt. would allow it on the boat (Thermocell) but would work just fine IF you had 0mph wind speed, otherwise pretty useless. They work great at camp with very low to no wind days. Good luck on the trip!

Yea I wasn't sure if it would do much good or not, I've had it for a few years and always forget I've got the thing so hardly ever use it. Not sure if it even works that well on land to tell you the truth
