airedale
A video from the UK of some Terrier men getting into the Rats at some kind of garbage collection place with some Patterdale Terriers. For the average Joe there is almost zero hunting with firearms and most hunting with dogs is banned but they can still hunt Rats.I have Ratted with Jack Russells and Airedales and the action can be fast and furious. They don't realize it but they're hunting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
First-light
Cool video. A few years ago I got to se a terrier take on a ground hog. . The hog was twice as big but no match for the terrier!
Bowguy 1
I've judged little hounds n next to our area guys were using terriers to get groundhogs. I think Jack Russell trials are not my thing but cool in their own right too. A dog with heart who wants something w complete desire is admirable
growalot
I can tell you first hand, once their noses hit the ground...they turn off their brains to EVERYTHING else.
airedale
Myself and a couple of other guys with an Airedale and two JTRs did some ratting on an old chicken farm. The floor in the barn was dirt and honey combed with rat holes and tunnels. We blocked most of the holes, closed all the doors and then fired up a rat smoker. It was made from an old two stroke string trimmer engine with a long flexible exhaust pipe. We put extra oil in the fuel and when she was running the smoke really boiled out of the exhaust pipe which was shoved down a main rat tunnel. It was not long before the rats came pouring out, mayhem is a description that would be putting the action mildly. Dogs chomping, feet stomping and clubs flailing. Some of those bigger rats actually went on the attack at the dogs and they would do anything to escape including climbing up your legs. I did a pretty good Fay Wray impression when it happened a couple of times with me. Crazy stuff that was exciting and heart pounding and sometimes even scary while it lasted. hunterdan44
I have a Manchester terrier and she is a real terror on mice n small mammals, I saved a rabbit from certain death last week as she sniffed out its burrow and stuck her head in and pulled the cottontail out. I made her drop it.Great little dog , her prey drive off the chart when she's onto something. Loves people and other dogs though great pet. Wife hates mice n lil critters so when she's out in yard dog "protects her" lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
left field
Hey - first post. I know a little about ratting as I have a show in development following a NorCal group that uses dogs to eradicate rodents on organic farms where it's illegal to use poison. This shot has about 300 rats after about 3 hours of work. Heading down there on the weekend to shoot another hunt. A lot of hard work ripping apart old barns, then exploding action with rats, dogs and people running everywhere. At the end: dead rats, tired dogs and grateful farmers.
