BigVal
Who's going out? Any advice for a new guy like me? I've hunted geese a few times but it was early season . I plan to hunt corn in catt county since the golf course down the road in Amherst won't let me lol . But what tips can anyone share on calling, decoy placement and numbers etc

turkeyfeathers
Tried to make it once it was nasty lol I did like it smoked and crock pot was also okWrap it in bacon !! Everything tastes better that way. Curious to which golf course ? They usually want them things outta there as they crap on the greens. Maybe ask superintendent there as temps this upcoming week will have golfers at the Dome here hitting balls instead of being on course. The_Real_TCIII
I've put them in a crockpot covered in BBQ sauce for 12 hours and they still come out as hard as a baseball. People who enjoy eating geese are liars lolSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The_Real_TCIII
There have been flocks flying over my house at 10 pm lately, pitch dark. Definitely migrators. I hope to find a flock to hunt. It's the same deal as the regular season, find where they're feeding at night and they will be back in the morning. sodfather
Don't ever try to put goose or duck in the crock that is way to long to cook. For geese I always just take the breast and trim to small cube size pieces. You can marinade in any cheap Italian dressing for an hour. Then take a slice of bacon a chunk of cream cheese, a chunk of pepper and roll up in bacon. Put on a kabob stick with veggies of choice and grill. When bacon is done goose is done. cityboy
Talking cooking game with a very old neighbor a long time ago. She said for the tough cuts use a covered cast iron pan with the lowest heat you can arrange, cook for 24 hours. Worked well for pheasant legs. Use some wine.
BigVal
Checked my fields today and wasn't too impressed couple birds in them but did have a big flock come over. Tried to get permission on another field that was loaded but the owner was not home.

Doc
See, that's the reason I never got all excited about goose hunting. I have yet to see any agreement on how great tasting they are. And then, some of the recipes that people concoct sound more like they are trying to cover up the taste with all the marinades and stuff that they cook the meat in. If I have to bury the flavor of the meat in all kinds of glop and goo, then I don't see the point to spending hours out in a freezing blind with snot dripping off my nose and my clothes slowly soaking through. Come-on, can't somebody rant and rave about the tremendous flavor of wild goose meat?

kpkot
Not to derail thread, but since 2008 i have noticed a breeding pair of geese that utilize a small farm pond on our property. Every year without fail, and its always just two geese. They will nest raise their little ones then take off until about this time next year. What are the odds this is the same two geese every year? It would make them at least 9. I don't know much about waterfowl any input would be great.
BigVal
Without alot of knowledge I would say it is definitely possible. I know they can live well beyond that and are very precise (can be) with flight patterns

BigVal
Best way to crock pot I've found is cover them in cream of mushroom soup and whatever else you like. I usually pound them out first too
helmut in the bush
I love shooting geese, can't get enough of it. I breast them out and when I have a good amount I have them made into smokies or sometimes summer sausage

sodfather
Doc I like goose meat, I just like to mix different marinade into my game. Hell I even get sick of just eating plain chicken breast. The only meat I like with nothing on it is turkey and steak. And decoying geese in your face is a blast..
