I have a business trip in Lancaster next week, just realized the Harrisburg show is same week!  I will be going for at least a part of a day, even though I know it wont be nearly enough time.

How is it organized?  Hunting booths all together, fishing in another area?  With limited time I want to be sure to cover the highlights.

Pretty well organized....Archery; Outfitters, Guns/accessories, Boats all have own room for the most part. Fishing/ hunting accessories cover a couple more.

Its big area to cover.

I get there early and pre print admission ticket; but if you are there later in day you'll be able to walk in with out a line in general.

Storm914,

I went twice in years past, at the time is was basically measured in "buildings" size big.  Ungodly amount of things to see, and I never use the term "ungodly" lol.  Anything from probably backscratchers, to guides, and outfitters.  It is great if you are interested in say getting into bowhunting, they have thousands of bows i'd say, thats why i originally went, so I could see all sorts of examples.

My wife and I were planning on it, even had hotel rooms nearby for a few night. The plan was to check out African outfitters and discuss opportunities for a trip in a few years. We would have enjoyed going just to get away, but we were able to find and contact quite a few outfitters and past clients before hand. We realized the money we spent down there would be about 1/2 of our required down payment, so am staying at home instead.

I've never been to the Harrisburg show, but the number of other shows I've attended over the years were honestly a complete waste of time.  I walked out of the places saying to myself why the &*^% did I even waste my time?  Could have spent my time doing something way more productive.  They were like huge flea markets where everyone was trying to pawn off their (mostly useless) junk for top dollar.

Depends on your interests, the Harrisburg show has a lot of different stuff. The gun building is my favorite, with all the big name manufacturers there you can handle all sorts of handguns and rifles. If you're in the market for a handgun or 2 you can literally rack and/or dry fire 100 different guns all depends on your fancy. The outfitter building is neat to see all the different animals, archery building is nice usually there is a couple crossbow man. there and can shoot the latest and greatest. Tons of archery gear and gadgets. A bunch of fishing vendors and charters from Lake Ontario if you are looking for some summertime fun. Expos and seminars daily. It's the biggest show in the NE and lots to do and see. Some good deals some not, some pretty nice scopes for good deals last time I went.

I have to admit some of the best hunts I have done were booked through internet research and not so much meeting outfits face to face, although I have done that route also and its been enjoyable. Far cry from when I did stuff by phone and fax. I usually go to shows now to give a chunk of cash for down payment if the show is close enough.

I haven't been to SCI show for years now; think of Harrisburg on steroids; but cost of attending the show pays for airfare on a trip.
