Doc
I thought I understood a bit about deer bedding areas until I looked out the window this morning and saw a deer curled up in the middle of the front lawn a dozen yards or so from our front door ..... lol...right in broad daylight. They are like a whole different species at this time of year. What a difference from the animal I was hunting last Fall. Do they really have that short an attention span that they have totally forgotten what was going on just a few short months ago.
Robhuntandfish
Every day the last 3 weeks going to and from work I've been looking in woods and see deer bedded right off the road everywhere. Makes you wonder if they bed there in the brush during fall too so you can't find them or if by the road is the only food source left. We still have a lot of snow on the ground here. landtracdeerhunter
Animals live by a few things; their stomach one of them. While food is sparse, they save their energy level. One gains a lot by being in the field this time of year. You see things not witnessed in hunting season. Jeremy K
During hunting season ,they sleep in the middle of the trail at one of our locations. Once the frost starts setting in ,you can always see where they were laying down .
G-Man
This is actually the worse time for deer. Conserving energy is number 1 priority. Food is sparce. Travel to minimum and heat retention to maximum. In a few weeks it all changes when thing s start to green up
dbHunterNY
like G-Man said they've basically got a biological clock going with fat stores.
