Culvercreek hunt club
OK. We have officially gone over the edge. I was listening to the radio at lunch. The advertisement comes on for the movie Chappaquiddick. Well I am half listening and they get to the rating part and I still couldn't tell you what it was rated but I hear them during their listing to justify the rating say something that made my head explode. It wasn't "brief nudity" or "Strong language". I hear them say the movie contains "historical smoking". Are you F'ing kidding me. With the language and sexual content that is accepted in prime time TV, making Pot legal and a host of other things, we have to rate a movie for historical smoking? No wonder the youth are so screwed up.

steve863
Not much sense in anything Hollywood says or does. They all live in La La land. If you are a hard-working straight white male, you are the lowest form of life in their opinion. To hell with them!!
left field
That's not "Hollywood", it's anti-smoking groups that have pressured the MPPA, broadcasters and advertisers to include the warning since 2007. Hollywood collectively (if you can say such a thing) doesn't care. They're in the business to make money and to occasionally create a piece of filmic art. That warning on movies that they include smoking has been in effect since 2007?

And they advocated for a change in rating. Rango made the anti-smokers lose their minds as it had 60 incidents of smoking and was rated PG. They believe that any movie with smoking should be rated R. So teens and youth can be influenced buy a movie scene but we are to believe they aren't by rap and music lyrics, violent video games and what passes now on prime time TV. They can't have it both ways.
left field
Tipper tried. Who's "they"? The anti-smokers pressured the media to change. Not sure how much they care about music or games.

Rattler
Years ago, smoking was common in films. Films often promoted certain cigarettes on the screen. Hollywood charges product manufacturers to show their product in a film, claiming it is advertising the product. The next time you see a product shown by name in a film, or even mentioned by name, be aware you are watching a paid advertisement on the screen. Also, when a film is mostly about promoting an ideology, which is often liberal, leftist, Socialist or Communist, it has probably received financial backing from the special interest groups pushing that agenda.
