2018 mushroom hunting

Can you tell what these are? I have seen alot of the orange ones around this year.

Jack-o-lantern. Toxic.
Violet Coral. Edible in small quantities(may have laxative effect).

Lilac Fibercap. Deadly toxic.

Look like orange waxy caps. Thought to be edible, but not very tasty.

Quick hunt this evening. Scored more Lobsters, Lions Mane, Hedgehogs, Yellow Ramaria and a few small gem studded puffballs.

Yummy...I picked two bunches today from two different areas. The more vibrant orange are MUCH more tender. I assume that is always the case

Those look great.
Older specimens may turn woody and unpalatable. Sometimes only the margin(growing edge) is tender enough to eat. Once the whole fungi fades to a cream color they have already turned bad.

Interesting these chickens had a firmer texture that was just like chicken. The last ones I had were soft just like a sautéed fresh store mushroom.

Yep as they get more mature they turn stringy like chicken. It's a nice texture.
Soon they will begin to get woody and dry.

I don't care for mushrooms and these keep popping up in my yard. I kinda feel guilty running them over with the lawnmower.

Seeing how these are Jack-o-lanterns(TOXIC) which are Saprobic, I would venture a guess that there used to be a large oak tree in that spot.

You could try to go out at night and see if they are glowing green

Damn PREDATE...…...you certainly know a lot about mushrooms ! You are absolutely right ! Very impressive ! There were 2 huge oak trees that we had taken down about 8 years ago. I even had the stumps grinded down.

Went out last night for some midnight mushroom hunting. Lobsters stand out well at night with a flashlight. Did manage some lobsters, but the highlight was definitely this perfect hen.

How do you cook yours
