DirtTime
Buddy and I have a camping trip coming up this weekend. It's gonna be hot! Doing a "walk-in" with no reservation, tent sites are limited and pretty small. Looking like we will not have much shade. I really don't want to take and set up the canopy alone, it's a huge PITA. I don't even think I could set it up if I wanted to space wise. Was hoping to have a nice breeze, but 6MPH avg, for Fri-Sat-Sun, isn't going to help much. LOL. As long as there's a site available, we'll just make the best of it. Lots of water and sunscreen. Nastiest part will be trying to sleep in almost 70 degree temps at night. Camping on the Hudson for the first time in my life, so I will be taking my fishing gear along. I can't keep the catch ( well, I can, but I sure as hell ain't eating it ), but I can still put in an effort to land something nice. I guess they have a beach, but again, not sure I want to swim in the Hudson. LOL. I have been there a few times, mainly for day use and some deer hunting scouts, but never camped. Have some good food planned. Beers around the camp fire, 20 feet away at night LOL. Some fishing. Good conversation. Temps aside, should still be a good trip.

Robhuntandfish
You'll have a good time and a lot of laughs. But I will say I'm not much on camping anymore. Not paying money to downgrade my lifestyle these days. Used to camp a lot and realized I had just as much fun under a real roof with a shower, AC and cable to watch a game, on the boys fishing trips. And it actually cost less in the end than buying all the gear etc. And we still had a great time and didnt have to sleep on the ground. Had a lot of good times camping , enjoy yourself . There isn't much better than sitting around a campfire telling stories and busting chops.

I still enjoy it and don't mind putting in the work that it takes to camp like this. I mean no offense when I say this, but if you are in a camper you may as well be parked next to me in the community my home sits in. It's not really camping. We have some luxuries, my buddy and I both have cots, and they are pretty comfy and fit in the 9x9 tent I have perfectly with our gear. The wife and I have a huge tent, I think 10x15 ( I like my space ), and a queen size air mattress that is super comfy. But I fully enjoy cooking over coals, listening to the birds all day long, watching the chipmunks scurry around, and actually being outdoors. It's going to be a good trip, no matter what. The ball-busting will start on Friday night between 6-7PM when my buddy gets there and I say, "Thanks for showing up bro! Don't worry about it, I got the tent up, got the firewood, and if your beer isn't cold I have some in my cooler that's ice cold. Help yourself. But be warned, I shook the hell out of a few cans 20 minutes ago, so it's a risk-reward thing.".

DirtTime
Was keeping track of available sites. Last night if I remember right, there were still 8, I may be wrong, as the time I checked may not coincide with the latest reservations. Tonight, there were 2 left. So made a quick call to my buddy, and made a last minute reservation. So- the site is actually booked, buddy is aware of the added cost for chip-in. The_Real_TCIII
I've got a couple cheap battery powered fans from Walmart that work real well inside a tent, they clip whatever you have, poles etc

I can just pack up the truck, head on over, set up the site at my leisure. Trust me, there will be many beers who meet their fate on this trip.

We use them in vehicles to keep air circulated because our dog prefers to sleep in there rather then a crate in a tent. I thought about bringing one, but opted out. I think leaving the fly off the tent will keep heat from building up inside creating moisture in the in tent.

DirtTime
It was a pretty good weekend over all. Hot, but plenty of water and beer helped. Pretty odd fire-pit set up, so I had to improvise my cooking. But it gave me something to ponder for about 10 minutes. Bugs weren't horrible until we put up the canopy Saturday morning, then the no-see-ums were relentless under the canopy. Those little ******* were impervious to bug repellent. All a part of tent camping. Fished early Saturday morning for a couple hours, nothing, like I already said. It didn't matter to me really, the breeze on the river was nice and I was fishing, so it was still a good morning to me. Got back to camp and thought about making a cup of coffee, then just had a few bottles of ice cold water. Buddy gets up about 10AM, not looking so good. The heat really got to him. So he was back in his rack by 11:30 for a nap. I went and got more ice, surfed this site when the signal was clear, and just relaxed. Grilled up some dogs for lunch, not bad, but gave me heartburn bad. Buddy liked them when he got up from nappy time, so it's all good. Then it was more or less just hanging out and drinking some beer. Gave our neighbors some tips when they were trying to get a tarp up for the incoming rain, and offered to help, but they said they would get it. Pretty cool people, went over and talked to them for about two hours, later in the evening after dinner. I planned on baked taters over the coals, but ended up dicing the taters up to speed up cooking over charcoal. Then grilled a couple strip steaks. Great dinner. I enjoyed the trip. Strip steaks even over charcoal in the woods beats in your back yard or a restaurant IMO.
