Pulled 3 close cams today. Just cause. Does and fawns. Have a couple small bucks. Have a 6 but that cam was on video so can't load it here. Not a big 6 but I would take it. 340befdaaf6599d6cf2155d2d9b8a21e.jpg7f75b7eec4bd0f46afff3448737900e2.jpg1006513855db5b2f3a271dae9ac6eeca.jpg436d01e9815ce30cac070618e6728309.jpgc13c6320fbc5c5763b32c7e2ccfcb103.jpge442155ffc2d119e3c0cf38fdd3283a7.jpg

Looks like a possible 6. I try to take a 5 pt or better.

That is what I have done, most years (look for a buck with at least 3 on a side), but the early antlerless gun season, that they started last year,  was a game changer.

I hope for a mature doe or two then this year.  If I can pull that off, then I will hold out for an 8-pointer or better, in the southern zone, and/or a 6-pointer or better, in the northern zone early ML season.

The only wildcard for me, is the northern zone rifle season.  I really want to see how a 30/30 performs on a deer.  Does are off limits up there then.  A 3” spike buck, with one side busted off, might be in trouble up there if we cross paths.

Had a federal audit yesterday and aced it. So day off today on the lake!

No shorts at all today. Dropped 3 including one right at the boat. But all nice sized.

Other than 2 massive tangles that required cussing and cutting it was a good day on the water. And breakfast with Charlie after. 27eeef7c8855279b489e1958a57481e7.jpg56203a60ec818ed519ae2678660ccb16.jpg1360ce4cecde1e6cea3d715488abdf0d.jpg

My wife called me from Walmart yesterday to ask me a question about draperies for our camp windows, and I asked her to check out the ammo while she was there.  Lots of clay loads available, Winchester AA at $12.27 a box, and they let her buy 12 boxes!   They always tell me max of 3.  I’m sending her in from now on!

Nice score for you too! I went there today and they were stocking the case so I hit it just right. Bought the only 2 boxes of 06 they had. I pretty well set with rifle now thanks to you for sure.

Need one more box of duck loads and should be good.

I’ve got a few boxes of duck and goose loads if you strike out.  I had been seeing a lot of that on the shelves when the trap loads were unavailable, but have not really looked hard for them lately.

Have the day off and cut all the trails this morn! Took about 4.5 hours but all done. Tomorrow I think I may do a small plot at wayback stand. That area stays pretty moist so prob do that one only with the heat coming in. Corey is out of town this weekend so prob do just the one and then him and I can finish the rest.

Saw a large yote, a doe and a fawn. Good day off. 545ac4f306833a531b14e1eefc7de352.jpg27be4de0952d998e0bba36ff67bbe529.jpg53783c91dec54bf0bdcd16a0b7e13516.jpg

Pulled cards on the 7 cams I had out. More bucks than usual in the summer. Nothing huge but looks like a 7, 5, wide 6?, And there were a couple of spikes. We usually only get 1-2 bucks all summer then it sure picks up in season. No sign of big sixy this year yet though. Looks like 5-6 does and a couple of fawns as well. a97e3a01d5ed94f75e82ca26e7ac958a.jpge662d8c886ad57b8705f5795213a378d.jpge38b12c4a9f7439c1cea8afb45699698.jpgc9089a4242f72b677af47421822fa9c7.jpg

Mowing looks good Rob!  Hope your plots come out ok.  I just looked it up and I planted mine August 15th last year.  Hopefully everyone gets the rain they need.
Thanks! Hoping so. The heat of next week isn't looking promising and I have a 3 day weekend. But might have to wait which is ok it still gives 30-45 days of growing. But we don't have top line equipment for tilling so it's a lot of work. And my fat old ass in 90+ isn't happening.

Put in a food plot at wayback today. A whole lot of work. We need to figure a better way and upgrade equipment or just frost seed and call it good. To much time and effort invested for such a small spot with the equipment we have. Need a tiller or discer so that don't have to lift and clean the plow after every pass. Hopefully this takes. Seeded it with shot plot and bow stand with a little radish mixed in.
Tuesday looks like rain.

Have more areas to do but Corey was away this weekend and figured I would get a start on it.24907026d6f5354198ab3cb2ff875093.jpg17f9a06de5985083f589ffb59657c813.jpgda8fceb7a11506a241f88019b1b81e4f.jpg

Was supposed to rain today. Not a damn drop. So I went out and took all the grass clippings from cutting and covered up my food plot. Supposed to be real hot tomorrow and no rain til Thursday. But then 4 days of rain chances. So hoping the clippings will keep it cooler and maybe catch some dew til then. 9c8e0c39ca8055c32f3209da80ec8a61.jpg

Got CSS and Littlefield areas all set this morn. Went early and done by 8:30. Just mow and throw plots. Cut it a week ago and then today cut it to the ground with the push weed eater. Hoping they take and for some more rain. Next weekend will finish the last one we want to do and til that one. Then no more work til labor day weekend to make sure stands are set and shooting lanes are cleared. 98a943eeb26d25f8be140aac48032cd2.jpg5f4ca95c079c66340eab07bdfe0234ee.jpg140f46b96e78f8c09be4cd427721b894.jpg

Trying to entice this big fella (Big Sixy) out if he's still around this season. Pics were right on this trail last two seasons. 8a096e9c7c3e42fcc826f1d6e896602a.jpg5c55f3b9a6d6bd2865bc4c7750c28f74.jpg
