Happy dog

Bought a couple Christmas toys for my lab  Ellie.3 toys 53 minutes . Destroyed . I bought most toys indestructible  on the market. She destroyed them .  Yesterday I went to the garage. Took out the box of old antlers I have collected. Cut the points off a scrub buck and ground edges.

she is a happy pup.... nothing worse than having to take new toys away  from your pup.

I know they have been selling them for years but the wife didn't like the idea . Our vet approved  antlers but wife  dragged her feet. 

Wife said I better shoot a buck next year... I told her I have it covered. Theres 2 totes full in the garage.

My boy got a new rabbit . He insists on chewing the ears off all of them.

Ellie goes for ears tale eyes then she guts them ... if theres a squeaker ... she gets that first .

I’d be hesitant to give dogs antlers.  Shards and possible getting lodged sideways in throat.  Coming from my wife who is a veterinarian. Better safe than sorry

Leah disembowels any stuffed toy in seconds.  

I get a bacon flavored hard bone from tractor supply. It's the only toy that lasts.  She loves em.

Antlers always scared me too..........the big rawhide chews were always a hit with my lab but I worried she'd choke on them because she'd practically inhale them.

We quit rawhide years ago do to an obstruction in one of our other dogs . $2000.00 in vet surgery.   We watch her with anything we give her .  Those antlers are curved  enough I don't think she can swallow  . When she wears them down I will replace them.

Had an emergency run to the vet for a rawhide choke with a dog one time.  Had it stuck in throat but could breath enough. I Couldnt get it out so went to vets and they knocked him out and removed it.  No rawhides for my dogs.

Ellie  gets her kong stuffed with biscuits  when we leave.   Other than that she doesn't play with them much. I have a kong ring she hasn't destroyed  yet and the frisby.

Dont bother cutting points off or grinding anything. I give my dog whole antlers all the time, and he loves them.

Rawhides are bad for dogs. I had to put one of my dogs down due to an obstruction (and she ate a hotwheels car that punctured her intestines), but the obstruction had alot of rawhide in it. Vets told me that those are the worst kinds of toys to give to a dog. Stick with non-splintering bones  or deer antlers and take them away once they get small enough to be swallowed.

Had a friend who's dog also swallowed a rawhide and it lodged in it's throat and ripped it.  Had surgery.  Close to $10K because she didn't have insurance.
