Lawdwaz
Deer, NOT fish.......... The buck I shot with the bow was a heavy horned, heavy bodied specimen. I asked the taxidermist to please save the jaw because I've always been curious about the age of the deer I shoot. This buck APPEARS to be quite old as seen in the attached pictures. I've got other lower jaws from bigger bucks I've killed and this one is considerably different. Today I ordered the deer aging kit from deerage.com and will be sending in the (I believe) front lower mandible. It'll take 90 days to get the results but I will update when I find something out. Thoughts or WAG are welcome......

Marion
Finally got Freddy's jaw back from the Taxidermist. I've got my own thoughts on how old he was but here are some pics to let the forum throw out their best guess. #ThankYouForLessOverzealousModding #WeDemandUnlimitedLikes #WeDemandADislikeButton

moog5050
In all seriousness, here is a buck that I killed in 2016. First pic is him from 2014 where we assumed he was at least 4.5 and started targeting him. But the teeth don’t look real worn. I never took the time to send a tooth in. Always assumed at least 6.5 but like I said, teeth didn’t seem that worn. Makes me think tooth wear is a very general guess on deer. I assume sending it in is really the only way to know. Photos don’t hurt either. Sane buck as he has a nub of a drop tine on his right antler in same spot for all those years. Is a deer eating corn, grass, sticks, rocks, etc A history with a deer is obviously way more telling. I’ve said it many times before that people get caught up in rack size when judging deer age and it’s not right. There’s a lot of deer killed on this forum that are much older than people think. I’d bet there are several 5.5 and 6.5 year old bucks killed every year on this forum that people just assume are only 3.5 because they are only score X. What'd he weigh? Edited December 8, 2020 by Lawdwaz

Just based on physical appearance Larry. Pic 1 is a good shot of him in 2014 Unfortunately I didn’t weigh him. He was much larger than this years bow buck who was 183 dressed. I also recall Jason saying he had the largest neck of any of the bucks he mounted that year.

If you had a day during the holiday season, take a ride down to Avon Region 8 Headquarters of the DEC and they might be able to give you a better idea on his age with the teeth.
