G-Man
Well went out looking for sheds today, and found a nice palmated 1 1/2 year old. Then i found i buck that i had hit during bow low thru the brisket, it was not there in muzzloader, but i feel it may have died from complications from the wound would of been even better this year i'm sure and had convinced myself that it would live as i tracked it for 2 days and never found it. Maybe i'm being to hard on myself as it could of been shot and lost by a gun hunter, poacher or car/truck , as where i found it was not far from a road and i know it was not there in muzzleloader season as it lay on a logging road/property line. erussell
Dang that is a heart breaker. But atleast the other buck will be around next yr and you recovered the rack and found a shed.
WNYBuckHunter
Bummer on the dead buck, doesnt look like hes been dead that long, maybe a month or month and a half maybe less since the antlers arent sun bleached yet. I doubt it would have had to do with a brisket shot in bow season. Still a bummer.

NFA-ADK
That is disappointing but part of the game, don't let it get you down... Too many factors besides your shot to blame yourself... Could have been a car or another shot from another hunter, age or rut effects...
Geno C
thats sucks greg unfortunately those are the circumstances tho... You never know how he died so no sense in beating yourself up to bad over it. Atleast you were able to make the find on him. Loosing a deer is not fun and one never knows if he lived or not after the shot or like you said, someone else may have hit him one way or another... letinmfly
Those stubby rounded points on that shed lead me to believe that it's an older buck rather than a young one. JMO
wooffer
Not sure you can blame yourself, could have been a number of other things. I don't picture wounded deer surviving too long with coyotes around. They would have picked up his blood trail and finished him off in short time. Doc
Actually, you never will know that the deer died of the wound from your shot. I'm sure that in the weeks that followed, he came in front of a lot of other hunters and maybe even a car or two. Last year, I finished off a buck that I know would not have made it through the winter, and I don't believe that his misery had anything to do with hunting. His hind quarters were chewed up and missing a lot of meat. There are a lot of nasty ways for a deer (or any critter) to meet his end and they are not always the result of things that we do. I wouldn't be too quick to accept blame for this guy's end. Your assumption may very well be correct, but you will never know for sure. G-Man
not to many coyotes round my place, seem to be kept in check Yes lots of way for deer to die, guess im gonna have to learn forensic science if i really want to know the answer.... SplitG2
Those stubby rounded points on that shed lead me to believe that it's an older buck rather than a young one. JMO I agree. Do they go down? If they point up it's a young deer, if they grow down its a mature deer. Look at some sheds you have and you will see what i'm talking about. G-Man
I know the shed is a year n a half, have pics of him, body size is that of yearling and pedical base is under 1/2 in. looks just like a big plamated ten that we took off property 2 years ago... most likely related to him..
